PATTERN NOTES

If substituting yarn, look for an alternative that has similar yardage and skein weight. When it states to repeat a row, always repeat the return row for that row also. Basket weave pattern involves alternating 2 Tunisian stitches— Tunisian knit stitch and Tunisian purl stitch—every 5 stitches, and then working the return row. After 5 rows, alternate the order by working a Tunisian purl stitch in each Tunisian knit stitch and vice versa. Since some rows have stitch counts that do not divide evenly into 5, there will be a partial rep at the beginning and end of such rows. Work with Tunisian crochet hook unless otherwise stated. Chain-4 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet and chain-1 space unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-1, join with double crochet counts as chain-3 space unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Last stitch of all Tunisian rows is worked under 2 loops at edge. Decreases for left neckline are worked on the return row instead of the forward row to make the two sides look more alike. This means on the forward row you will pick up 1 extra stitch and remove it in the return row. To work last stitch of forward row in decrease section of left neckline: You will see 2 loops worked together from previous return row. Skip the first of these and insert hook under 2 loops at the edge.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Beginning cluster (beg cl): Ch 2, dc in designated st.

Cluster (cl): (Yo, insert hook in designated st and draw up lp, yo, draw through 2 lps) twice, yo, draw through 3 lps on hook. Tunisian knit stitch (Tks): Insert hook from front to back between strands of next vertical bar, yo and draw through, keeping lp on hook. Tunisian purl stitch (Tps): Bring yarn forward, insert hook under next vertical bar and draw up lp.

Tunisian knit stitch slip stitch (Tks sl st): Inserting hook as in Tks, draw up lp in next st and draw lp through st and lp on hook. Tunisian purl stitch decrease (Tps dec): Bring yarn forward, insert hook under next 2 vertical bars, draw up lp. Tunisian knit stitch decrease

(Tks dec): Insert hook under next vertical bar then in the following st between front and back vertical bar and draw up lp. This method makes the st look like a Tks. Tunisian slip stitch (Tsl st): inserting hook in pattern, draw up lp in next st, draw lp through st and lp on hook.
