PATTERN NOTES
Bag is worked in vertical rows with a join-as-you-go technique; refer to written pattern and Placement Diagram for color sequence and joining. Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-5 at beginning of round counts as first half double crochet and chain-3 unless otherwise stated. When instructed to work joining single crochet in a petal, work into the chain-2 space of the petal.

Posy A Rnd 1: Make a slip ring (see illustration), ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc. Pull beg tail tightly to close ring. With front side of Row 7 facing and working first joined petal in Posy 5, work Bottom Gusset Posy (see Pattern Stitches), working joined petals in petals of next Posy of same row, [ Gusset Posy (see Pattern Stitches)] 4 times, Top Gusset Posy (see Pattern Stitches).
LEFT GUSSET
With back side of Row 1 facing and reversing all front and back sides, work same as Right Gusset.
HANDLE POSIES
Front Side Rose Posy
Rnds 1 & 2: With rose, rep rnds 1 and 2 of Posy A.
Rnd 3: Working on front side of Bag, joined petal in each of first 3 ch-3 sps, working joining sc in RS of petals 1 and 2 of Posy at top of row 6 and petal 1 of Posy at top of row 5, petal in each of last 3 ch-3 sps, join in first sc of beg petal. Fasten off. (3 petals, 3 joined petals)
Gold Posy

ASSEMBLY & FINISHING
Fold Posies of front side over purse handle and sew rem petals to corresponding petal area on RS of Bag. Rep on back side of Bag. Lining 1. Lightly steam Bag if needed and allow to dry thoroughly. 2. Fold felt rectangle in half crosswise. With sewing needle or machine and thread, sew 1/4- inch seam at side edges. 3. Insert Lining in Bag and trim felt to shape of top of Bag. With needle and thread, hand-sew top of Lining to inside of Bag. 4. Optional: Separate 11/2-yd length of white into plies, thread 3 plies through tapestry needle and embroider a decorative stitch (model features chain stitch—
see illustration) on top edge of Lining. CW
