Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in each of next 3 sts, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in each of last 3 sts, change color to pumpkin, join in beg sc. (12 sc, 13 hdc)

Feet

Ch 1, sc in same st as base of beg ch-1, (ch 3, sc) in each of next 2 sts. Fasten off.

Facial Features

For beak, with pumpkin, ch 2, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Leaving a 5-inch tail for sewing, fasten off. Sew to Chick over center rnds. For eyes, with black, embroider 2 French knots (see illustration) above beak.

FROG BLOCK

Rnd 1: With green, ch 4, join in first ch to make a ring, ch 2, 5 hdc in ring, change color to black, 6 hdc in ring, join in top of beg ch-2, changing color to green in join. (12 hdc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st as base of beg ch-2, 2 hdc in each of next 2 sts, change color to black, 2 hdc in each of next 3 sts, join in top of beg ch-2, changing color to green in join. (24 hdc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 2 hdc in next st, [hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st] around, join in top of beg ch-2. (36 hdc)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as base of beg ch-1, sc in each of next 4 sts, sk next st, 6 dc in front lp of next st (eye made), sk next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, sk next st, 6 dc in front lp of next st (eye made), sk next st, sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, [sc in each of next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice, change color to delft blue. (34 sc, 2 eyes)

Rnd 5: Working in back lps, sc in next st, [ch 1, sk next st, sc in next st] twice, ch 1, hdc in unworked lp behind next ear, ch 1, sc in next st, ch 1, sk next st, sc in next st, ch 1, hdc in unworked lp behind next ear, ch 1, sc in next st, [ch 1, sk next st, sc in next st] around, join in beg sc. (18 sc, 2 hdc, 20 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 6: Work same as rnd 8 of Lion Block. (40 sc, 20 ch-1 sps) Rnds 7 & 8: Work same as rnds 9 and 10 of Bear Block. (18 hdc on each side, 4 corner ch-2 sps at end of last rnd)

Fly Make 2.

With black, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in beg sc. Leaving a 7-inch tail for sewing, fasten off. (6 sc) Sew Fly on rnd 7 of Frog Block near bottom corner. With sewing needle and thread, sew stud side of snap to center of Fly.

Wings

With white, embroider 2 lp sts (see illustration) on Fly. Fasten off.

Loop Stitch

Step 1: Bring needle to front at center of stitch (1); go back in at same place; come out one-half of stitch width to left (2), pull to form a loop.

Step 2: Insert needle one-half of stitch width to the right of loop (3), come out at center of next st (4); pull stitch snug (2–3).

Facial Features Tongue

With red, ch 10, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next 7 ch. Leaving a 5-inch tail for sewing, fasten off. Sew end of Tongue to Frog Block between rnds 1 and 2 of black section. With needle and thread, sew socket side of snap to opposite end of Tongue. Snap Tongue to either Fly.

Eye Make 2.

With white, work same as Fly. Sew to Frog on rnd 4 of Block. With black yarn, embroider a French knot in center of eye.

LADYBUG BLOCK

Rnds 1–3: With black, work same as rnds 1–3 of Flower Block. (36 hdc at end of rnd 3)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as base of beg ch-1, sc in each of next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st, sk next st, 6 dc in front lp of next st (head made), sk next st, sc in each of next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st, [sc in 8 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice, change color to green in last st. (37 sc, 1 head)

Rnd 5: Working in back lps, sc in next st, [ch 1, sk next st, sc in next st] 4 times, ch 1, hdc in unworked lp behind next ear, ch 1, sc in next st, [ch 1, sk next st, sc in next st] 18 times, ch 1, join in beg sc. (19 sc, 1 hdc, 20 ch-1 sps) Rnd 6: Work same as rnd 8 of Lion Block. (40 sc, 20 ch-1 sps)

Back Make 2.

With red, work same as Vase. Place straight edge of Back on zipper tape, aligning zipper pull with top edge, and sew in place with needle and thread.
