Getting started: Place Bag on a flat surface with foundation ch at bottom and curves of inc sts at each end, find center 12 ch-1 sps each of front and back of Bag. Place a stitch marker each in first and 12th ch-1 sps of front and back. This leaves 22 ch-1 sps on each curved end of Bag for the Strap.

Row 1: Join petrol in first ch-1 sp after stitch marker, ch 4, dc mesh 20 times, dc in next ch-1 sp, turn. (22 dc, 21 ch-1 sps)

Row 2: Sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 4, dc mesh 19 times, dc in next ch-1 sp, turn. (21 dc, 20 ch-1 sps)

Row 3: Sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 4, dc mesh 18 times, dc in next ch-1 sp, turn. (20 dc, 19 ch-1 sps)

Row 1: Working on opposite edge 22 ch-1 sps, join petrol in first ch-1 sp after stitch marker, ch 4, dc mesh 20 times, dc in next ch-1 sp, turn. (22 dc, 21 ch-1 sps)

Rows 2–21: Rep rows 2–21 of First Half. At the end of row 21, leaving a 12-inch length, fasten off. Remove stitch markers. Holding rows 21 tog and matching sts, whipstitch edges (see illustration) tog, weave in end. Fasten off.

TRIM

Rnd 1: Join petrol in seam, ch 1, reverse sc (see Stitch

Guide) evenly sp down side of Strap, across top of Bag and up other side of Strap, join in beg st. Fasten off. Rep rnd 1 of Trim on opposite side of Bag.

BUTTON LP

With RS facing, leaving a 2-inch length at beg, join petrol at center back in top of rnd 25, ch 25, join in same st, leaving a 2-inch length, fasten off. On inside edge of Bag, knot ends tog to secure. Weave end into Trim. Sew button to rnd 23 on center front of Bag.
