PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Chain-6 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet and chain-3 unless otherwise stated. Chain-4 at beginning of round counts as first treble crochet unless otherwise stated. Chain-2 at beginning of round counts as first half double crochet unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Single crochet join (sc join): Place slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook. Large petal (lg petal): Ch 3, dtr dec in next 4 sts, ch 4.

HOT PAD SMALL PROTECTOR

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, [ fptr (see Stitch Guide) around next dc post, 2 dc in next st] around to last dc; fptr around post of last dc; join in top of beg ch-3. (12 dc, 6 fptr)

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in next st, [ fpdc (see Stitch

Guide) around next st, 2 dc in each of next 2 dc] around to last st; fpdc around post of last dc; join in top of beg ch-3. (24 dc, 6 fpdc) Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 3 sts, [ch 3, fpsl st (see Stitch Guide) around next fpdc, ch 4*, dc dec in next 4 sts] around, ending last rep at *; join in top of beg dc. Fasten off. (6 dc) Rnd 5: With hot green, join in top of any fpdc of rnd 3; ch 6 (see Pattern Notes), [sl st in top of next dc, ch 3*, 2 dc in next fpdc, ch 3] around, ending last rep at *, dc in same st as joining sl st; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-6. Rnd 6: Ch 3, [4 dc in next ch-3 sp, sk next sl st*, 4 dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in each of next 2 dc] around, ending last rep at *; join in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (60 dc)

Rnd 7: Sc join (see Special

Stitches) dazzle blue in any st, [sc in each of next 8 sts, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts] around; join in beg sc. Fasten off. (72 sc)

Rnd 8: Join tangerine in any st, [ sm petal (see Special Stitches), sl st in each of next 2 sts] around; join in base of beg ch-3. (12 sm petals, 24 sl sts)

Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in each ch and tr of each sm petal around; sl st in each of 2 sl sts in between each sm petal; join in beg sc. Fasten off. (120 sts) Rnd 10: Working in back lps (see Stitch Guide), sc join black in any sc; sc in each sc around, sk all sl sts between petals; join in beg sc. Fasten off. (96 sc)

LARGE PROTECTOR

Work rnds 1–8 same as Small Protector in the following color sequence: Rnds 1–4: Tangerine. Rnds 5 & 6: Soft ecru. Rnd 7: Black. Rnd 8: Hot green. Rnd 9: Join dazzle blue in back lp (see Stitch Guide) of any st in between petals from rnd 7; ch 4 (see Pattern Notes), tr in same st, [ch 3, sl st in tr of next petal, ch 3*, 2 tr in back lp of next st between the current and next petal] around, ending last rep at *; join in top of beg ch-4. (24 tr, 24 ch-3 sps) Rnd 10: Ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), hdc in next st, [4 hdc in next ch-3 sp, sk next sl st, 4 hdc in next ch-3 sp*, hdc in each of next 2 sts] around, ending last rep at *; join in top of beg ch-2. Fasten off. (120 hdc)

Rnd 11: Join soft ecru in any st, beg lg petal (see Special Stitches), [sl st in next 2 sts*, lg petal (see Special Stitches)] around, ending last rep at *, ch 3; join in top of beg ch-3. (20 lg petals, 40 sl sts) Rnd 12: Work same as rnd 9 of Small Protector. Fasten off. (200 sts) Rnd 13: With tangerine, work same as rnd 10 of Small Protector. Fasten off. (160 sc)

FINISHING

Lightly steam-block and let dry completely.
