• Lizbeth size 10 crochet cotton (122 yds per ball): 1 ball #616 medium

daffodil • Size 7/1.65mm steel crochet hook

or size needed to obtain gauge • Starch • Straight pins • Plastic wrap • Pinning board

GAUGE

16 dc = 11/2 inches; 11 rows = 21/2 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Beginning chain-8 counts as first double crochet, chain-2, skip next 2 stitches. Chain-3 at beginning of row or round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Chain-5 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet and chain-2 unless otherwise stated. Chain-7 at beginning of row counts as chain-2 first double crochet and chain-2 unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Triple treble crochet (trtr): Yo hook 4 times, insert hook in base of last dc made, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 5 times.

Picot: (Sc, ch 3, sc) in indicated st or sp. Double picot: ({Sc, ch 3} twice, sc) in indicated sp. Single crochet join (sc join): Place slip knot (see illustrati­on on page 26) on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook.

Rnd 1: Ch 6, join (see Pattern Notes), ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join in beg sc. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, ch 1, [sc in next sc, ch 1] around, join in beg sc. (12 sc, 12 ch-1 sps) Rnd 3: Sl st in next ch-1 sp,

ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), dc in same ch-1 sp as beg ch-3, 2 dc in each rem ch-1 sp around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (24 dc)

Rnd 4: *Ch 8, sk next 5 chs, sc in next ch, dc in each of next 2 chs, sk 2 dc**, sl st between previous and next dc, rep from * around ending last rep at **, join. Fasten off.

BORDER

Rnd 1 (RS): Sc join (see Special

FINISHING

Dampen and block, pin to plastic-wrap–covered pinning board, placing a straight pin in each picot around Bookmark and each point of Sunshine. Dry completely, starch Bookmark, dry completely, remove straight pins.
