Cut 3 lengths of black yarn 3 inches long for legs. Knot one end of each length of Antenna and both ends of 3 leg pieces. Trim ends close to knot. ASSEMBLY & FINISHING Place Mat With small dab of fabric glue, place Seeds on Place Mat, using photo as guide for placement. Allow to dry slightly. With tapestry needle, whipstitch (see illustration on next page) to Place Mat. Lay Place Mat on felt and cut to shape of Place Mat. Using fabric

glue, attach felt to back of Place Mat making sure all edges are even. Smooth out flat and allow to dry completely.

Napkin Ring

Lay 6 red strips side by side. Take first white strip and weave under and over end of each red strip going in opposite direction as red strips. Take 2nd white strip and place beside first white strip placing as close to it as possible and reversing under/ over placement. Rep process with rem white strips, making sure all strips fit tog snugly and there are no open sps or gaps. Also make sure long edge of strips on outside edge are lined up with all ends of red strips, forming a straight edge around

the perimeter of the checkered Napkin Ring. Using tapestry needle, sew strips tog with running stitches (see illustration), making sure that sts are hidden as much as possible.

When finished, piece should look like a red and white checkerboard piece of fabric. Place cloth between iron and Napkin Ring and press lightly with a warm steam iron, taking care not to flatten fabric with excessive heat or steam.

Ant

With tapestry needle and length of black yarn, sew Body pieces of Ant tog. Using photo as guide for placement and shaping of Antenna and Legs, lay Body on an angle so that it is facing any corner and is centered on Napkin Ring. Place 3 Leg pieces under Body making sure they are the same length on both sides, forming 6 Legs. With a very tiny dab of fabric glue, and making sure knotted ends are away from Body, attach 2 Antenna to Upper Body at top of head, tucking slightly under edge of head. Sew Body pieces to Napkin Ring. Glue along back side of Antenna and leg pieces shaping them as you go. (A toothpick may help to spread just the tiniest amount of glue and keep the project neat). Press firmly into place and allow to dry completely. Roll 2 corners of checkered Napkin Ring under and attach them tog using length of yarn and tapestry needle, making sure Ant is centered. This forms a tubular shape. Weave in all loose ends. Roll up napkin in a pleasing fashion and insert into Napkin Ring.
