MATERIALS

• Lily Sugar n’ Cream medium (worsted) weight cotton yarn (21/2 oz/120 yds/71g per skein): 1 ball each #1 white and #95 red • Size G/6/4mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE

7 sts = 2 inches; 6 rows = 2 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Hot Pad is crocheted diagonally from corner to opposite corner and may not be perfectly square until after blocking. Chain-3 at beginning of row or round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. To change colors, work last stitch of row to last yarn over; with new color yarn over. Do not fasten off unused color; carry loosely up edge of work. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Front long double crochet

(fldc): Working in front of ch-1 sp, dc in next sk sc 2 rows below. Back long double crochet (bldc): Working behind ch-1 sp, dc in next sk sc 2 rows below. Single crochet join (sc join): Place slip knot (see illustrati­on on page 26) on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook.
