FINISHED MEASUREMEN­TS

MATERIALS

• Lizbeth size 3 crochet cotton (120 yds/50g per ball): 1 ball each #601 white, #604 black, #663 bright turquoise dark and #695 bright orange • Size 8/1.50mm steel crochet hook • Embroidery needle • Small amount of coordinati­ng felt

GAUGE

Gauge is not necessary for this project.

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCH

Single crochet join (sc join): Place slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook.

ORNAMENT BELLY

With white, ch 10.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (9 sc) Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first and next 3 sts, working in front lp (see Stitch Guide), sc in next st, now working in both lps, sc in last 4 sts. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first and next 3 sts, working in back lp (see

Stitch Guide), sc in next st, now working in both lps, sc in last 4 sts. Turn.

Rows 4–7: Rep Rows 2 and 3 alternatel­y.

Scallops:

With RS facing, [ch 1, dtr (see

Stitch Guide)] 7 times in front lp of 5th st in Row 7, ch 1, sl st in end of Row, *[ch 1, dtr] 7 times in unworked lp of 5th st in next row, ch 1, sl st in end of next row*, rep from * to * in Rows 5,4, 3, 2, and 1. Fasten off.

HEAD

Rnd 1: With white, work 6 sc in

a slip ring (see illustrati­on). Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] around. (18 sc)

Rnd 4: Sc in each st around.

Neck Tab:

Turn Head so WS is facing.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in next 2 sts, leave rem sts unworked. Turn. (2 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. Row 3: Rep Row 2. Fasten off.

Nose:

With orange, ch 3.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd and 3rd ch from hook. Turn. (2 sc) Row 2: Ch 1, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in 2 sc. Turn. Row 3: Ch 1, sl st in st. Fasten off.

HAT

With black, ch 12.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off. (11 sc) Row 2: With RS facing, sc join (see Special Stitch) in 3rd st of Row 1, sc in next 6 sts, leave rem sts unworked, turn. (7 sc) Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. (7 sc) Rows 4–6: Rep Row 3. Edging rnd: Sl st around entire Hat adding a ch-1 at each outer corner, join (see Pattern Notes) in first sl st. Fasten off.

SCARF

With turquoise, ch 3. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch and next ch. Turn. (2 sc) Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. Rows 3–27: Rep Row 2. Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY & FINISHING

1. Sew Neck Tab to inside of Belly allowing 1 row of Neck Tab to protrude from Belly. 2. Sew Row 7 to Row 1 of Belly to form a tube underneath scallops. 3. Using photo as a guide, sew Hat and Nose to Head. 4. With black, embroider French knots (see illustrati­on) for eyes. 5. Wrap Scarf around Neck and sew in place. 6. With black, form a hanging lp of desired length and glue to back of Head. 7. Cut small circle of felt and glue to back of Head to cover threads and add stability.
