• Red Heart Super Saver medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (prints: 7 oz/364 yds/198g; multis: 5 oz/236 yds/141g per skein): 2 skeins each #336 warm brown, #5851 denim and #3991 earthy • Size J/10/6mm crochet hook or

size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle

GAUGE

Rnds 1–3 = 23/4 inches; completed square = 53/4 inches; 16 dc = 11/2 inches; 11 rows = 21/2 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

AFGHAN SQUARE

With brown, ch 4, (see Pattern Notes) in first ch to form a ring, do not ch-1, 8 sc in ring, join in beg sc. (8 sc) Rnd 2: [Ch 3, sl st in next sc] around, ending with ch 3, join in same st as beg ch-3. (8 ch-3 sps)

Rnd 3: Sl st in ch-3 sp, ch 1, sc in same ch sp as beg ch-1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp, [sc in next ch-3 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp] around, join in beg sc.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same sc, *ch 3, sk 3 dc, (2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc) in next corner ch-2 sp, ch 3**, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next sc, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, join to beg sc. Fasten off.

Rnd 5: Draw up a lp of earthy in ch-3 sp to the left of any corner ch-3 sp, sc in same ch-3 sp, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-3 sp, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner ch-3 sp**, sc in next ch-3 sp, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, join in beg sc. Fasten off.

JOINING

Rnd 6: Draw up a lp of denim in first sc to the left of any corner ch-3 sp, ch 1, sc in same sc, *ch 2, sk next 2 dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, sk next 2 dc, sc in next sc, ch 2, sk next 2 dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next dc, (sc, ch 4, sc) in corner ch-3 sp, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next dc, ch 2, sk next 2 dc**, sc in next sc, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, join in beg sc. Fasten off. Join rem Squares tog on 1 or 2 sides as necessary in 7 rows of 9 squares, join row 1 of squares on just 1 side. Continue working as for rnd 6, to join corners tog, ch 2, drop lp, draw lp under to over through opposite ch-4 sp, ch 2 and continue as indicated. To join ch-2 sps, ch 1, drop lp, draw lp under to over through opposite ch-2 sp, ch 1 and continue as indicated. When joining on 2 sides, where 4 corners meet, ch 2, drop lp, draw lp under to over through opposite ch-4 sp to the right, ch 1, drop lp, sk next ch-4 sp, draw lp under to over through next ch-4 sp, ch 2 and continue as indicated until all squares are joined.

Rnd 1: Draw up a lp of denim in first ch-2 sp to the left of any corner ch-4 sp, ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same sp, *[ch 2, sc in next sc, ch 2, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 sp] twice, ch 2, sc in next corner sp between squares, ch 1, sc in next corner sp between squares, ch 2, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 sp, rep from * across with ch 1, (sc, ch 4, sc) in each corner ch-4 sp, ch 1**, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 sp, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, join to beg sc, sl st in next ch-2 sp.
