PATTERN NOTES

Operation Gratitude requests scarves measuring 4–6 inches wide and 48–50 inches long to accommodat­e care packages. If you plan to donate your scarf, please make sure to follow the guidelines on their website. Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Chain-2 at beginning of row counts as first half double crochet unless otherwise stated.

SCARF BEG SCARF BORDER

Row 1 (WS): Ch 24, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (23 hdc) Row 2: Ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), [ fpdc (see Stitch Guide), bpdc (see Stitch Guide)] to last 2 sts, fpdc, hdc in last st, turn. (2 hdc, 11 fpdc, 10 bpdc) Row 3: Ch 2, [bpdc, fpdc] to last 2 sts, bpdc, hdc in last st, turn. (2 hdc, 11 bpdc, 10 fpdc) SCARF Row 1: Ch 1, shell (see Special Stitch) in first st, [sk 2 sts, shell in next st] across row to last 4 sts, sk 2 sts, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) last 2 sts, turn. (7 shells, 1 sc) Row 2: Ch 1, shell in first sc, shell in each sc across to last sc, sc in last sc, turn. (7 shells, 1 sc) Rep row 2 until Scarf measures approximat­ely 48 inches, ending with a WS row.

END SCARF BORDER

Row 1: Ch 2, hdc in first sc (inc made) and in each st across, turn. (23 hdc) Rows 2 & 3: Rep rows 2 and 3 of Beg Scarf Border; fasten off.
