Violets in the Snow
PATTERN NOTES Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. SPECIAL STITCHES Single crochet join (sc join): Place slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and draw up a lp, yo, draw through both lps on hook. Beginning V-stitch (beg V-st): Ch 6, dc in same st or sp. V-stitch (V-st): (Dc, ch 3, dc) in indicated st or sp. Picot: Ch 3, sl st in top of st just made.
Beginning 3-double crochet
cluster (beg 3-dc cl): Ch 2, yo, (insert hook in st or sp, yo, draw up lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook) twice in same st or sp, yo, draw through all 3 lps on hook.
3-double crochet cluster
(3-dc cl): [Yo, insert hook in indicated st or sp, yo, draw up lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 3 times in same st or sp, yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook.
Popcorn (pc): 5 dc in indicated st or sp, draw up a lp, remove hook, insert hook front to back through first dc, pick up dropped lp and draw through st on hook, ch 1, fasten off.
DOILY VIOLETS
Make 12. Rnd 1 (RS): With daffodil, form a slip ring (see illustration), ch 1, (sc, ch 3) 3 times in ring, (sc, ch 4) twice in ring, draw ring closed, join (see Pattern Notes) in first sc. Fasten off. (5 sc, 3 ch-3 sps, 2 ch-4 sps)
Rnd 2: Join purple with (sl st in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, 5 dc, ch 2, sl st in same ch-3 sp) in each of next 3 ch-3 sps. Fasten off. (6 sl sts, 6 ch-2 sps, 15 dc) Rnd 3: Join natural with (sl st in next ch-4 sp of rnd 1, ch 3, 7 tr, ch 3, sl st) twice. Fasten off. (4 sl sts, 4 ch-3 sps, 14 tr)
DOILY CENTER
Rnd 1 (RS): Working over a 25mm ring, join purple with sc join (see Special Stitches), (9 sc, ch 5) 6 times over ring, join in beg sc. Fasten off. (54 sc, 6 ch-5 sps)
Rnd 2: Working over 20mm ring, join natural, (6 sc, ch 5) 5 times over ring, (6 sc, ch 2) over ring, sl next ch-3 sp on 25mm ring, ch 2, sl st in first sc on 20mm ring to join. Fasten off. (36 sc, 6 ch-5 sps) [Rep rnd 2 with 20mm ring] 5 times, joining them to center 25mm ring.

Pin Doily to blocking board and spray with starch. Dry and remove from blocking board.
