I Love Tea Cozy

PATTERN NOTES

Cozy is felted in the washing machine after it is made to create a thick insulated fabric. Use only 100% wool yarn. Do not use machine washable wool as it will not felt. Size of Cozy can be adjusted during the felting stage. For a larger Cozy, felt it for a shorter period of time; for a smaller Cozy, felt it for a longer period of time. Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Work in continuous rounds; place stitch marker in first stitch of each round unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

COZY

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first hdc and first ch), 7 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, do not join. Place marker (see Pattern Notes). (8 hdc) Rnd 2: 2 hdc in each st around. (16 hdc)

Rnd 3: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st] around. (24 hdc)

Rnd 4: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 2 sts] around. (32 hdc) Rnd 5: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 3 sts] around. (40 hdc) Rnd 6: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 4 sts] around. (48 hdc) Rnd 7: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 5 sts] around. (56 hdc) Rnd 8: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 6 sts] around. (64 hdc) Rnd 9: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 7 sts] around. (72 hdc) Rnd 10: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 8 sts] around. (80 hdc) Rnd 11: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 9 sts] around. (88 hdc) Rnds 12–32: Hdc in each st around. Rnds 33–35: Using a firm tension, sc in each st around. Rnd 36: Sl st in each st around, fasten off.

Loop

Row 1: Leaving an 8-inch tail, ch 13, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each rem ch, fasten off leaving an 8-inch tail. (12 hdc)

Make a pot of tea and invite your friends over for conversation and crochet time! Felting the cozy after it is crocheted makes a thick fabric and will keep your tea piping hot for hours!

ASSEMBLY

Fold Lp in half and sew securely to top of Cozy.

FINISHING

Felt Cozy in washing machine using lowest water setting and hot wash cycle. Check size often. When felted to desired size, spin dry or roll in towel to remove excess water. Shape and lay flat to dry. Using the photo as a guide, sew flower and ball embellishments to Cozy.
