MATERIALS

• Knit One, Crochet Too Handpainte­d Batiste fine (sport) weight merino wool/linen/silk yarn (13/4 oz/208 yds/50g per hank): 2 [3, 4] hanks #6298 rouge

• Size M/13/9mm Tunisian crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

• Size L/11/8mm crochet hook

• 2 stitch markers

• Tapestry needle

GAUGE

11 sts in pattern = 4 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. The yarn over from the previous row appears as a slant and is worked as a stitch. The stitch count remains the same. Tunisian crochet consists of a forward pass and a return pass.

SPECIAL STITCHES Tunisian simple stitch (Tss):

[Insert hook in next ch, yo, draw up lp, retaining lp on hook] across. Do not turn.

Work loops off hook: Yo, draw through 1 lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps] until 1 lp rem on hook.

Tunisian purl stitch (Tps):

With yarn in front, insert hook from right to left behind front vertical bar, yo, draw up lp.

Extended Tunisian simple stitch (ExTss): Insert hook from right to left behind front vertical bar, yo, draw up lp, rep retaining lps on hook across. Extended Tunisian simple stitch 2 together (ExTss 2

tog): [Insert hook from right to left behind front vertical bar, yo, draw up lp, yo, draw up a lp, retaining lp on hook] twice, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook (1 dec made). Single crochet bind off (sc bind off): [Insert hook from right to left behind next vertical bar, yo, draw up lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] across to bind off all sts.

PATTERN STITCH

Row 1: Ch 1, ExTss (see Special Stitches). Work lps off hook. Row 2: Ch 1, [ ExTss 2 tog (see

Special Stitches), yo] across to last 2 sts, ExTss 2 tog. Work return pass. Rows 3 & 4: Ch 1, ExTss. Work lps off hook. Rep rows 1–4 for pattern.

TOPPER

With size L hook, ch 43 [49, 53], change to size M Tunisian hook and work Tss (see Special Stitches). (43 [49, 53] lps on hook) Work lps off hook (see Special Stitches). Work 1 row of Tps (see Special Stitches) and work lps off hook. Work in pattern (see Pattern

Stitch) until piece measures 50 [53, 56] inches, ending with row 3 work lps off hook. Work 1 row of Tps and work lps off hook. With size L hook, sc bind off (see Special Stitches) across.

FINISHING

With RS tog, fold opposite side of foundation ch to last row. For neck opening, measure 111/2 [12, 13] inches from fold edge and place marker. For arm opening, measure 6 [7, 8] inches in from opposite edge and place another marker. Sew seam between markers and remove markers. Weave in any rem loose ends. Block Topper to smooth and even out sts.
