Water Lily Necklace

FINISHED MEASUREMEN­T Water Lily and Medallion:

11/2 inches in diameter

MATERIALS

• Aunt Lydia’s Classic Crochet size 10 crochet cotton (350 yds per ball): 1 ball each #495 wood violet and #435 silver

• Size 7/1.65mm steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

• Tapestry needle

• 8mm silver and white bead

• 18-inch fine silver chain

• 3mm oval silver jump rings: 4

• Toggle clasp

• Needle-nose pliers

• Wire cutters

• Sewing needle and thread

GAUGE

4 dc = 1 inch

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-2 at beginning of round does not count as first double crochet.

NECKLACE WATER LILY

Make 2. Rnd 1 (RS): With wood violet form slip ring (see illustrati­on), ch 1, work 16 hdc in ring, join

(see Pattern Notes) in first hdc, draw slip ring closed tightly. (16 hdc)

Rnd 2: [Ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in each of next 4 chs, sk next hdc of rnd 1, sl st in next hdc] 8 times, leaving a 12-inch length, fasten off. (8 petals)

MEDALLION

Rnd 1: With silver form slip ring, ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), work 14 dc in ring, join in first dc, draw slip ring closed tightly. (14 dc) Rnd 2: Ch 2, (dc in next dc, ch 1) around, join in first dc. (14 dc, 14 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 3: Sl st in first ch-1 sp, (ch 3, sl st in next ch-1 sp) around, join with last sl st in first sl st. Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY

Stack Water Lilies with petals staggered, allowing edges to curl and sew tog. Sew bead at center of flower. Sew assembled Water Lily to center of Medallion. Weave in ends, block. Cut chain in half (9-inch

lengths), attach 1 end of each length to 1 end of toggle clasp using a jump ring. Using rem 2 jump rings, attach other end of each length to ch lp of rnd 3 of the Medallion with 5 lps between.
