Flower Fiesta Fringed Afghan

PATTERN NOTES Weave in loose ends as work progresses. To avoid tangling long ends, work flower fringe as you go, 1 color change behind working row. Join with slip stitch unless otherwise stated. Chain-2 at beginning of row does not count as a stitch unless otherwise stated. SPECIAL STITCHES Cluster (cl): [Yo, insert hook in indicated st or sp, yo and draw up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps] twice, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Shell: ( Cl— see Special Stitches, ch 2, cl) in indicated st. AFGHAN With teal, leaving a tail 11/4 yds long, ch 183. Row 1 (WS): Hdc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, ( hdc dec— see Stitch Guide in next 2 sts, ch 1) across, hdc in last ch; ch 1, turn. (90 hdc dec, 2 hdc)

Row 2 (RS): Hdc in first hdc, ch 2, sk next ch sp and hdc dec, (hdc in next ch sp, ch 2) across to last ch sp, sk last hdc dec and ch sp, hdc in last hdc; fasten off, leaving a tail of 11/4 yds long. (90 ch sps, 91 hdc)

Crochet this afghan for your favorite chair or porch swing! Worked in worsted-weight yarn, this lacy afghan is first crocheted in rows, leaving long tails when colors are added. The long tails are then used to crochet the fun flower fringe!

Row 3: With RS facing, leaving a tail of 11/4 yds long, join (see Pattern Notes) white in first hdc, ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), dc in first hdc, ( shell— see Special Stitches in next hdc, dc in next hdc) across; fasten off, leaving a tail of 11/4 yds long. (45 shells, 46 dc) Row 4: With RS facing, join coral in first dc, ch 1, work 1 hdc in each dc, cl, and ch sp across, working 2 hdc in last st; fasten off. (182 hdc)

Row 5: With RS facing, leaving a tail of 11/4 yds long, join turquoise in first hdc, ch 1, hdc in first hdc, ch 1, (hdc dec in next 2 sts, ch 1) across, hdc in last hdc; ch 1, turn. (90 hdc dec, 2 hdc) Row 6: Hdc in first hdc, ch 2, sk next ch sp and hdc dec, (hdc in next ch sp, ch 2) across to last ch sp, sk last hdc dec and ch sp, hdc in last hdc; ch 1, turn. (90 ch sps, 91 hdc)

Row 7: Sc in each hdc and ch sp across; fasten off, leaving a tail of 11/4 yds long. (181 sc)

Row 8: With RS facing, leaving a tail of 11/4 yds long, join white in first sc, ch 2, dc in first sc, (sk next sc, shell in next sc, sk next sc, dc in next sc) across; fasten off, leaving a tail of 11/4 yds long. (45 shells, 46 dc) Row 9: Rep row 4. Rows 10–12: Rep rows 5–7, using teal instead of turquoise. Row 13: Rep row 8. Rows 14–122: [Rep rows 4–13] 10 times, then rep rows 4–12 once. Flower Fringe With RS facing, take up long tail, join on hook as close as possible to afghan (there will be approximat­ely a 1/2- inch gap of yarn). Ch 3, in 3rd ch from hook work (dc, ch 2, sl st), [ch 2, dc, ch 2, sl st] 3 more times in same ch; ch 2, with flower faceup, sl st in afghan at base of long tail. Fasten off. Rep for each long tail on each short end of afghan. FINISHING Dampen and block, stretching lengthwise to straighten, allowing flowers to overlap slightly. CW
