• Aunt Lydia’s Classic Crochet Size 10 crochet cotton (350 yds per ball): 4 [5, 5, 6, 7] balls #210

antique white • Size 5/1.90mm steel crochet hook

or size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle • Stitch markers

GAUGE

Motif = 21/2 inches square Take time to check gauge.

PATTERN NOTES

Body is worked in Strips up to armholes, beginning at bottom of jacket. Fronts and Back are then worked separately with Shoulders worked last, joining Fronts to Back. Do not turn at ends of rounds. Chain-3 at beginning of rounds counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Place slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook. Picot: Ch 6, sl st in first ch. Joining picot (jp): Ch 4, drop lp, insert hook in center of correspond­ing picot, pick up dropped lp and pull through, ch 2, sl st in first ch of ch-4. Cross: Sk first picot, hdc in next picot, hdc in sk picot.

Using jp in adjacent Motif picots, make and join 11 [13, 15, 17, 19] more Motifs to form a horizontal strip. Complete 5 [5, 6, 6, 6] more horizontal strips following diagram and joining to previous strip.

RIGHT FRONT First Horizontal Strip

Make and join Motifs to first 3 [4, 4, 5, 5] Motifs of previous strip.

2nd Horizontal Strip

Sk first Motif of Right Front First Horizontal Strip, make and join Motifs to next 2 [3, 3, 4, 4] Motifs.

3rd & 4th Horizontal Strips

Make and join Motifs to each Motif of previous strip.

BACK

Do not join to Front at armhole opening.

First Horizontal Strip

Make and join Motifs to next 7 [7, 9, 9, 11] Motifs of Lower Body.

2nd & 3rd Horizontal Strips

Make and join Motifs to each Motif of previous strip.

4th Horizontal Strip

Sk first 2 [3, 3, 4, 4] Motifs of Back, make and join Motif(s) to next 3 [1, 3, 1, 3] Motif(s) of previous strip.

LEFT FRONT

Do not join to Back at armhole opening.

First Strip

Make and join Motifs to last 3 [4, 4, 5, 5] Motifs of Lower Body strip.

2nd Strip

Make and join Motifs to next 2 [3, 3, 4, 4] Motifs leaving last Motif at opening edge unworked.

3rd & 4th Strips

Make and join Motifs to each Motif of previous strip.

SHOULDER

Make and join 2 [3, 3, 4, 4] Motifs to last strip of Front, at same time joining to Motifs of Back. Rep for 2nd Shoulder.

Jacket Border

Rnd 1: With RS facing, sc join

(see Special Stitches) thread in corner picot at bottom of Left Front, 2 sc in same sp, dc in each st up to next picot, {[ cross

(see Special Stitches) in next 2 picots, dc in each st up to next picot] up to next corner, 3 sc in corner picot, dc in each st up to next picot} 3 times, rep between [ ] once more, join in beg sc. Fasten off.

SLEEVES

Work 2 strips of Motifs in same manner joining to Motifs around armhole opening.

Armhole Border

Rnd 1: With RS facing, join thread in first st after first picot of petal of any Motif,

ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), *dc in each st up to picot, cross in next 2 picots; rep from * around, join in top of beg ch-3. (14 cross, 98 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join in beg sc. Fasten off. (126 sc)

FINISHING OR ASSEMBLY

Immerse the piece in cool water, squeeze out excess water, taking care not to wring or twist. Place the piece on a flat, covered surface, gently stretch to open lace pattern and block to measuremen­ts. Leave until completely dry.
