MATERIALS

• Plymouth Yarn Pendenza light (DK) weight mercerized cotton yarn (31/2 oz/240 yds/100g per ball): 4 balls #0004 coral grey mix • Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle • Blocking board or towels • White vinegar (optional)

GAUGE

31 sc = 8 inches; rows 4–15 = 51/2 inches

GAUGE SWATCH

Ch 23. Work rows 1–15. Wet-block to 51/2 inches wide x 61/2 inches long without stretching.

PATTERN NOTES

Make a gauge swatch to practice lifting loops and correct stitch formation. Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Last single crochet worked between last loops and last strand at end of row counts as first single crochet of next row unless otherwise stated. Last slip stitch worked between last loops and last strand at end

WRAP

Row 1: Ch 243 [303], working in back bars (see illustrati­on), sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (242 [302] sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, lift lp on hook to 1/2 inch. Hold lp on hook with thumb. *Insert hook in next sc, yo, pull up a lp, ch 1, lift lp to 1/2 inch. Rep from * across, removing lps from hook every 5–8 lps. At end of row, remove all lps from hook except last lp, yo, pull strand through lp, sc in sp between last lp and last strand (see Pattern Notes). Turn. (242 [302] 1/2- inch lps) Row 3: Sc in each lp across. Turn. (242 [302] sc)

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, lift lp on hook to 1 inch. Insert hook in first sc, yo, pull up a lp, sl st in next sc, ch 1, lift lp to 1 inch. *Insert hook in next sc, yo, pull up a lp, sl st in next sc, ch 1, lift lp to 1 inch. Rep from * across, removing lps from hook every 5–8 lps. Row 33 [45]: Sc in each lp across. Turn. (242 [302] sc) Row 34 [46]: Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Wet-block and gently shape to finished measuremen­ts but do not stretch. Optional: For colorrich yarn, add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to water to prevent bleeding of color.
