Turtle: 71/2 inches wide x 21/2 inches tall Fish: 3 inches wide x 11/2 inches tall MATERIALS • Red Heart Super Saver medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (5 oz/ 236 yds/141g per skein): 1 skein #988 platoon • Red Heart Classic medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (31/2 oz/190 yds/100g per skein): 1 skein each #686 paddy green, #1 white, #12 black, #230 yellow and #245 orange • Size H/8/5mm crochet hook • Tapestry needle • Stitch marker • Fiberfill

Gauge is not important for this project.

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Do not join rounds unless otherwise stated. Place stitch marker at beginning of rounds and move up as each round is completed. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

TOYS TURTLE Make 3. Shell

Make 2. Rnd 1: With platoon, form a slip ring (see illustrati­on), ch 1,

Rnd 2: [2 sc in next st] around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] around. (18 sc)

Rnd 4: [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts] around. (24 sc) Rnd 5: [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts] around. (30 sc) Rnd 6: [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts] around. (36 sc) Rnd 7: [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 5 sts] around. (42 sc) Rnd 8: [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 6 sts] around. (48 sc) Rnds 9–18: Sc in each st around. At end of rnd 18, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc, leaving a 24-inch tail on 1 Shell, fasten off.

Neck & Head

Rnd 1: With paddy green, leaving a 12-inch tail, ch 12, join in

first ch to form a ring, sc in each ch around, place st marker. (12 sc) Rnd 2: Sc in each st around. Rnds 3 & 4: Rep rnd 2. Rnd 5: [2 sc in next st] around. (24 sc) Rnds 6–12: Rep rnd 2.

Rnd 13: [ Sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sts, sc in each of next 2 sts] around. (18 sc)

Rnd 14: [Sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in next st] around. (12 sc)

Rnd 15: [Sc dec in next 2 sts] around, join in beg sc, fasten off. (6 sc) Weave end tail through rnd 15 and pull gently to close opening. Stuff Neck and Head with fiberfill. Fold opening at base of Neck flat and sew through both thicknesse­s of sts to close. Leave rem tail for sewing Neck to Shell.

Eye

Make 2.

Rnd 1: With white, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3 sc in next ch, working on opposite side of foundation ch, sk first ch, 2 sc in next ch, join in beg sc, fasten off. (6 sc) With black and using photo as a guide, embroider satin stitch

(see illustrati­on) pupil on Eye.

Left Fin

Row 1: With green, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (4 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Rows 3–6: Rep row 2. Row 7: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts, sc in each of next 2 sts, turn. (3 sc) Row 8: Rep row 2. Row 9: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts, sc in last st, turn. (2 sc) Row 10: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts, turn. (1 sc) Rows 11 & 12: Rep row 2. At end of row 12, do not turn. Rnd 13: Now working in rnds, sc evenly sp around entire Fin making sure to place 3 sc on each end of foundation ch, join in beg sc, leaving a 14-inch length of yarn, fasten off. (33 sc) Right Fin Rows 1–6: Rep rows 1–6 of Left Fin.

Row 7: Ch 1, sc in each of first 2 sts, sc dec in last 2 sts, turn. (3 sc) Row 8: Rep row 2. Row 9: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc dec in last 2 sts, turn. (2 sc) Row 10–Rnd 13: Rep rows 10–rnd 13 of Left Fin.

Back Fins

Make 2. Rows 1–6: Rep rows 1–6 of Front Left Fin. Row 7: Ch 3, sl st in first st, (sl st, ch 3, sl st) in each st across, do not turn. (7 sl sts, 4 ch-3 sps)

Row 8: Sc evenly sp in ends of rows of first side, working in opposite side of foundation ch, 3 sc in first ch, sc in each of next 2 chs, 3 sc in next ch, sc evenly sp in ends of rows of other side, leaving sts and sps of row 7 unworked and a 14-inch length of yarn, fasten off.
