Rnds 5–9: Rep rnd 4. Rnd 10: [Sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in next st] around. (12 sc) Stuff with fiberfill.

Rnd 11: [Sc dec in next 2 sts] around, join in beg sc, leaving an 8-inch length of yarn, fasten off. (6 sc) Weave end tail through rnd 11 and pull gently to close opening. Mouth Rnd 1: With yellow, ch 6, join in first ch to form a ring, leaving a 6-inch length of yarn, fasten off. (1 ch-6 ring)

Tail

Row 1: With yellow, leaving an 8-inch tail, ch 3, working in back bar of ch, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in last ch, turn. (2 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, (sl st, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in each of next 2 chs, sc in last ch, sl st) in each st across, fasten off. (4 sl sts, 4 sc, 4 dc) ASSEMBLY Refer to photo as a guide for placement of all pieces. Turtle 1. With black, embroider a satin stitch mouth in a straight line from 1 side of Head to other side at rnd 15. Sew Eyes to Head. With black, embroider satin stitch nostril at a slight slant just below each Eye. 2. With 24-inch tail, sew Neck to rnd 14 of 1 Shell. Do not cut rem length of tail. 3. Sew Front and Back Fins to sides of rnd 17 of Shell. 4. Sew Tail to rnd 17 of Shell in midpoint between Back Fins. 5. Weave in all loose ends on 2nd Shell. Stuff this Shell inside first Shell. Stretch and manipulate Shells until rnd 18 of each Shell lines up with the other. With rem length of 24-inch tail, sew sts of rnds tog. Weave rem tail into Shells. Fish Sew Mouth to rnd 1 of Body. With black, embroider French

knot (see illustration) eyes above Mouth. Sew Tail vertically to rnd 11 of Body. Position ends of Fins with tr on side of Body and sew in place. CW
