size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle GAUGE 8 dc = 21/4 inches; 4 dc rows = 11/2 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Chain-5 at beginning of row counts as chain space unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCH

Single crochet join (sc join): Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and draw up a lp, yo and pull through both lps on hook.

AFGHAN

First Length Row 1: With leaf, ch 9, dc in 6th ch from hook (sk chs count as ch sp), dc in last 3 chs, turn. (4 dc) Rows 2–79: Ch 5 (see Pattern Notes), dc in each dc, turn.

2nd Length

Row 80: Ch 5, dc in each dc, ch 2, (insert hook in previous ch-5 sp on same side of strip, yo and pull lp through, yo, pull through 1 lp on hook) 5 times, yo and pull through all 6 lps on hook, turn.

Row 81: Ch 2, dc in each dc, turn. Row 82: Ch 5, dc in each dc, ch 2, sc in next ch-5 sp on correspond­ing side of strip, turn.

Rows 83–151: Rep rows 81 and 82 alternatel­y, ending with a rep of row 81. Rows 152–158: Ch 5, dc in each dc, turn.

Stitch) petal color in any st, work another sc in same st, 2 sc in each rem sc around, join in first sc. (16 sc)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining, (ch 2, tr) in same st, (tr, ch 2, sc) in next sc, *(sc, ch 2, tr) in next sc, (tr, ch 2, sc) in next sc, rep from * 6 times, join in first sc, fasten off leaving long length for sewing. (16 tr)

SMALL FLOWER

Make 12 with cinnabar & 12 with tangerine as petal color.
