• Red Heart Soft medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (4 oz/212 yds/113g per ball): 4 balls #9440 light

grey heather • Size I/9/5.5mm crochet hook or

size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle

GAUGE

14 dc = 4 inches; 7 dc rows = 4 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Shawl is worked lengthwise from the bottom up. Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Border is worked on the short ends of Shawl only. Chain-4 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet and chain-1 unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Love knot (LK): Draw up lp on hook and extend to about 1/2 inch in length; holding lp in place, ch 1, insert hook under left-hand strand of the 3 strands below hook (see illustrati­on A), draw up lp, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook (see illustrati­on B) to close

Large shell (lg shell): (Dc, {ch 1, dc} 3 times) all in indicated st or sp.

Small shell (sm shell): ({Dc, ch 1} twice, dc) all in indicated st or sp.

Row 1 (WS): Ch 183, sc in the back bar (see illustrati­on) of 2nd ch from hook and in each back bar across, turn. (182 sc)

Row 2 (RS): Ch 3 (see Pattern

Notes), sk next 3 sts, tr in next st, working behind tr just made, dc in the 3 sk sts, *sk next 3 sts, tr in the next st, working behind the tr just made, dc in 3 sk sts, rep from * across to the last st, dc in the last st, turn. (137 dc, 45 tr) Row 3: Ch 3, *sk next 3 dc, tr in next tr, working in front of tr just made, dc in 3 sk sts, rep from * across, dc in top of ch-3 turning ch, turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in the first dc, * LK (see Special Stitches), sk next 3 sts, dc in next tr, rep from * across, dc in top of ch-3 turning ch, turn. (45 LK, 48 dc)

Row 5: Ch 3, dc in next dc, *LK, dc in next dc, rep from * across, dc in top of ch-3 turning ch, turn.
