Motif = 21/4 inches square; 21 sc = 2 inches

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-5 at beginning of round counts as first treble crochet, chain-1.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Beginning 3-treble crochet

cluster (beg 3-tr cl): Ch 3, [yo twice, insert hook in next st, yo, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, yo, draw through all 3 lps on hook.

3-treble crochet cluster

(3-tr cl): *Yo twice, insert hook in indicated st, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, rep from * twice, yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook.

VALANCE CHERRY MOTIF

Make 38. Rnd 1 (RS): With red, form a slip ring (see illustrati­on), ch 3 (does not count as a st), 16 tr in ring, join (see Pattern Notes) in first tr, draw loose end of slip ring to close opening tightly. Fasten off. (16 tr)

Rnd 2: Join white in any tr, ( ch 5— see Pattern Notes, tr, ch 3, tr, ch 1, tr) in same st, [ch 2, sk next 3 sts, (tr, ch 1, tr, ch 3, tr, ch 1, tr) in next st] 3 times, ch 2, join in first tr. (16 tr, 4 ch-3 sps) Rnd 3: Beg 3-tr cl (see Special Stitches), *ch 3, ( 3-tr cl— see

BLOSSOM MOTIF

Make 38.

Rnd 1 (RS): With white, form a slip ring, (ch 3, tr, ch 3, sl st) 4 times in slip ring, draw loose end of slip ring to close tightly. (4 petals)

Rnd 2: Sl st to first tr, (ch 5, tr, ch 3, tr, ch 1, tr) in first tr petal, ch 1, [(tr, ch 1, tr, ch 3, tr, ch 1, tr) in next tr of petal] 3 times, ch 1, join in 4th ch of beg ch-5. (16 tr, 4 ch-3 sps) Rnds 3 & 4: Rep rnds 3 and 4 of Cherry Motif.

ASSEMBLY Join Motifs

Join white in corner ch-3 sp of Cherry Motif, ch 2, sl st in corner ch-3 sp of Blossom Motif, [ch 2, sl st in next ch sp of Cherry Motif, ch 2, sl st in next ch sp of Blossom Motif] 5 times. Fasten off. Join white on opposite side of Blossom Motif, ch 2, sl st in corner ch-3 sp of Cherry Motif, [ch 2, sl st in next ch sp of Blossom Motif, ch 2, sl st in next ch sp of Cherry Motif] 5 times. Fasten off.

Continue alternatin­g Motifs until a Strip of 19 Motifs are joined, starting and ending with a Cherry Motif. Make 2 Cherry Strips. Make another Strip of 19 joined Motifs starting and ending with a Blossom Motif. Make 2 Blossom Strips.

Join Strips

Laying a Cherry Strip next to a Blossom Strip, join white in corner ch-3 sp of left Motif, *ch 2, sl st in corner ch-3 sp of right Motif, [ch 2, sl st in next ch sp of left Motif, ch 2, sl st in next ch sp of right Motif] 4 times, ch 2, sl st in corner ch-3 sp of left Motif, ch 2, sl st in corner ch-3 sp of right Motif, [ch 2, sl st in ch-2 of join] twice, ch 2, sl st in corner ch-3 sp of next left Motif, rep from * until Strips are joined tog, ending with sl st in corner ch-3 sp of last right Motif. Fasten off. Rep twice to join rem Strips. A Cherry Strip will be at the bottom and a Blossom Strip at the top.

Top Trim Header

Row 1 (RS): Join white in corner ch-3 sp of first Motif on top row, ch 1, sc in same st as joining, [{ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp} 5 times, ch 3, sc in joining sp] across strip, [ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp] 6 times, turn. (114 lps)

Side Edging

Make 2.

Rnd 1 (RS): Join white in end of Bottom Edging or Top Trim Header, [{ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp} 6 times, ch 3, sc in joining ch sp] across sides of Motifs, [ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp] 6 times, ch 3, (sc, sl st) in end of Header or Edging row. Fasten off.
