Aran medium (worsted) weight merino wool yarn

(31/2 oz/150 yds/100g per skein):

9 skeins #274 chili

• Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or

size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle

15 dc = 4 inches; 9 rows = 4 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

Edging

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around outer edge of shawl, working (sc, hdc, sc) in each corner, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, reverse sc (see Stitch Guide) in each st around, join in beg reverse sc. Fasten off.

Pocket

Make 2.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 38, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each rem ch across, turn. (36 dc)

Rows 2–14: Ch 3, dc in each dc across, turn.

Row 15 (RS): Ch 3, dc in each dc across, do not turn.

Pocket Edging

Rnd 1: With RS facing, ch 1, (hdc, sc) in corner, sc evenly down side in ends of rows, (sc, hdc, sc) in corner, sc in each ch of foundation ch, (sc, hdc, sc) in corner, sc evenly up side in ends of rows, (sc, hdc, sc) in corner, sc in each st of row 15, sc in same st as first hdc, join in beg hdc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, reverse sc across top of pocket only, join in corner hdc, leaving a 24-inch length for sewing, fasten off.

FINISHING

Block pockets. With reverse sc sts facing toward star sts section of wrap, position pocket centered on dc section of wrap and sew sides and bottom of pocket to wrap. Sew 2nd pocket in same manner on opposite end of wrap.
