PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

When changing color in Bootie, carry and work over color not in use. Do not cut or fasten off unless otherwise stated.

Chain-2 at beginning of row or round does not count as a stitch unless otherwise stated.

When changing color in Hat, carry color not in use up wrong side of work until next needed. Do not cut or fasten off unless otherwise stated.

BOOTIE

Make 2. ANKLE OPENING & INSTEP

Row 1 (RS): With MC, for Ankle

Opening, ch 20, join (see Pattern

Notes) in first ch to form Ankle Opening, for Instep, ch 7, hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg 2 sk chs

do not count as a st), hdc in next 4 chs, hdc in next 20 chs around Ankle Opening, working on opposite side of foundation chs of Instep, hdc in next 5 chs, changing color (see Stitch Guide and Pattern Notes) to CC in last hdc,

turn. (30 sts) Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, change color to MC, turn. Row 3: Ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), hdc in each st across, change color to CC, turn.

Rows 4 & 5: Rep rows 2 and 3. Row 6: Rep row 2, cut CC at end of row.

Row 7: Rep row 3, do not change color. SOLE

Row 8: Fold piece in half lengthwise, ch 1, working through both thicknesse­s in outer lps, sl st in each st across. Fasten off. (15 sl sts) TOE Rnd 1: Working in ends of rows, sc join (see illustrati­on) MC

in end of any row, 13 sc evenly around, do not join. (14 sc)

Rnd 2: [ Sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sts] around. Fasten off, leaving an 8-inch tail. (7 sts)

Weave tail through sts and pull to close. ANKLE CUFF

Rnd 1: With RS facing and working on opposite side of foundation chs of Ankle Opening, join MC in any ch, ch 2, hdc in same st as join, hdc in each st around, join in first hdc. (20 sts)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in each st around, join in first sc. Fasten off.

HAT

Rnd 1: With MC, ch 3, 8 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg 2 sk chs do not count as a st), join (see Pattern Notes) in first hdc, chang

ing color (see Stitch Guide and Pattern Notes) to CC in last hdc.

(8 hdc) Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as join, 2 sc in each st around, join in first sc, changing color to MC. (16 sc) Rnd 3: Ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), hdc in same st as join, 2 hdc in next st, [hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st] around, join in first hdc, changing color to CC. (24 hdc)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, [sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around, join in first sc, changing color to MC. (32 sc)

Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc in same st as join, hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, [hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st] around, join in first hdc, changing color to CC. (40 hdc) Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, [sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] around, join in first sc, changing color to MC. (48 sts)

Rnd 7: Ch 2, hdc in same st as join, hdc in each st around, join in first hdc, changing color to CC. Rnd 8: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in each st around, join in first sc, changing color to MC.

Rnds 9–16: Rep rnds 7 and 8 alternatel­y. Fasten off CC at end of rnd 16.

Rnd 17: Ch 2, hdc in same st as join, hdc in each st around, join in first hdc.

Rnd 18: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in each st around, join in first sc. Fasten off.

Ear

Make 2. Rnd 1: With MC, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in first sc. (6 sc)

Row 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in first sc, 2 hdc in next 4 sts, change color to CC in last st. Fasten off MC, leaving an 8-inch tail for sewing. (10 hdc) Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, [sc in next st,

2 sc in next st] 4 times. Fasten off. (15 sc) Muzzle Rnd 1: With white, ch 3, 8 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, join in first hdc. (8 hdc)

Row 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around, join in first hdc. (16 hdc) Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, [sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] around, join in first sc. Fasten off, leaving an 8-inch tail for sewing. (24 sc) Nose

With CC, ch 2, [3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 2] 3 times, join in first sc. Fasten off, leaving an 8-inch tail for sewing. (9 sc, 3 ch-2 corner sps) ASSEMBLY & FINISHING

Sew Ears to Hat at sides between rnds 4–8.

Sew Muzzle to Hat between rnds 8–17.

Sew Nose to Muzzle with bottom of triangle just above center. Embroider mouth with straight stitches (see illustrati­on).

Eyes

With black, working above top of Muzzle on rnd 6 of Hat, make French knots (see illustrati­on) 2 sts apart.
