PATTERN NOTES

This garment is made in one piece from bottom to armholes, then divided for Fronts and Back. When working in the Stitch Pattern as established, the row always begins with a chain-3, and ends with a single crochet in the turning chain unless otherwise stated. Make sure to work a double crochet into single crochet and work a single crochet into double crochet.

SPECIAL STITCH

Decrease (dec): Because of the nature of this pattern stitch, decreasing changes rows slightly after each decrease. Depending on size being made, and what row you are on, sometimes you will be working a single crochet together with a double crochet, sometimes the double crochet will be first combined with a single crochet.

To make decreases work as follows:

If the last st made was a dc or beg ch-3, decrease in the next 2 sts as follows: insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, yo, pull through 3 lps on hook. If the last st made was a sc, decrease in the next 2 sts as follows: yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull through 3 lps on hook. After decrease is made, be sure that the next stitch will keep pattern as established, with sc in dc and dc in sc. When working even on the row after a dec row, work whichever st (dc or sc) into the dec is needed to maintain the alternating pattern of sc and dc stitches.

Row 6: Reverse sc (see Stitch Guide) in each sc around. Fasten off.

Sew buttons on opposite button holes.

Arrange flowers and leaves using photo as a guide, pin in place, and sew on. Using same length of yarn from leaves, make a French knot in center of flower, and stem stitches to make stems.

To make a French knot (see

illustration), bring needle up from back of work to center of flower, keep thread tightly in left hand. Keeping needle near fabric, wrap yarn around needle 3 times (A), gently pull the thread so that the wrapped yarn is tightening against the needle, insert needle next to the point where it came out, hold wraps and pull needle gently to back (B), leaving a lovely knot behind.

To work stem stitch (see illustration): Bring needle up from back and make a small stitch, go back halfway on stitch just made, make another stitch, continue working each stitch in same manner to desired length, fasten off.

BLOCKING

Place finished garment on a padded surface, spray lightly with water, pat gently into shape, pin using rustproof pins, allow to dry. Do not press or steam.
