Row 1: Hdc in 5th ch from hook (sk chs count as ch 1, hdc, ch 1), [ch 1, sk next ch, hdc in next ch] across, turn. (43 ch sps, 44 hdc) Row 2: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), [hdc in next hdc, ch 1] across to turning ch, hdc in 4th ch of turning ch, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, [hdc in next hdc, ch 1] across to turning ch, hdc in 2nd ch of turning ch, turn.
Rep row 3 until piece measures 13 inches. Fasten off.
FLOWERS
Make 1 each Tiger Lily, Chrysanthemum, Carnation and Rose.
Work 1 Flower and 1 or 2 Leaves in upper left corner of each
Place Mat. To locate beg sp, count 6 rows down from top left edge and 6 sps from left edge. At this intersection, place marker on each of 4 edges (2 hdc posts
and 2 chs) that form sp.
Tiger Lily
Locate beg sp and place markers. Rnd 1: With RS facing and working over beg tail (see
Pattern Notes), sc join (see
Special Stitches) yellow around top ch-1. Remove marker, sc around same ch-1. Rotate piece clockwise, remove marker and work 2 sc around first hdc post. Rotate piece clockwise, remove marker and work 2 sc around bottom ch-1. Rotate piece clockwise, remove marker and work 2 sc around last hdc post. Join
(see Pattern Notes) to first sc. (8 sc) Rnd 2: Ch 1, work 2 sc in each sc around, join in first sc. Fasten off yellow. (16 sc) Rnd 3: Sc join pumpkin in any sc, *ch 3, (3 tr, picot— see Spe

Chrysanthemum
Locate beg sp and place markers. Rnd 1: With RS facing and working over beg tail (see
Pattern Notes), sc join (see
Special Stitches) yellow around top ch-1. Remove marker, 2 sc around same ch-1. Rotate piece clockwise, remove marker and work 3 sc around first hdc post. Rotate piece clockwise, remove marker and work 3 sc around bottom ch-1. Rotate piece clockwise, remove marker and work 3 sc around last hdc post. Join in first sc. (12 sc)
Rnd 2: Working in front lps
(see Stitch Guide), *ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across, sl st in next sc; rep from * 11 times, ending with sl st in base of first petal. (12 petals)
Rnd 3: Working in back lps (see
Stitch Guide), sl st in sc behind first petal, *ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sl st in next sc; rep from * 11 times, join in base of first petal. Fasten off. (12 petals)
Carnation
Locate beg sp and place markers. Rnd 1: With RS facing and working over beg tail (see
Pattern Notes), sc join (see
Special Stitches) pink around top ch-1. Remove marker, sc around same ch-1. Rotate piece clockwise, remove marker and work 3 sc around first hdc post. Rotate piece clockwise, remove marker and work 2 sc around bottom ch-1. Rotate piece clockwise, remove marker and work 3 sc around last hdc post. Join in first sc. (10 sc)
Rnd 2: Working in front lps (see Stitch Guide), ch 2 (counts
as first hdc), 2 hdc in same st, 3 hdc in each st around, join in top of beg ch-2. (30 hdc)

(see Stitch Guide), *ch 2, 3 dc in next sc, ch 2, sl st in next sc; rep from * 4 times, ending with last sl st in first sc. (5 small petals)
Rnd 3: Working in back lps
(see Stitch Guide) of rnd 1, ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * 3 times, ch 3, sk next st, sc in beg sc. (5 ch-3 sps) Rnd 4: (Sl st, ch 2, 3 tr, ch 2, sl st) in each ch-3 sp around, sc in first sc of rnd 3. (5 large petals) Rnd 5: Working behind large petals of rnd 4, *ch 4, inserting hook from front to back between first and 2nd tr of next petal, sl st in ch-3 sp of rnd 3, ch 4, sl st in next sc; rep from * 4 times. (10 ch-4 sps)
Rnd 6: (Sl st, ch 2, 3 tr, ch 2, sl st) in each ch-4 sp around, sc in first ch-4 sp. Fasten off. (10 large petals)

Make 1 or 2 for each Flower. Rnd 1: Sc join (see Special Stitches) olive around any ch-1 or hdc near Flower, sc around 2 adjacent surface lps (see Pat
tern Notes), ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next 3 chs, working in back lps (see Stitch Guide), dc in first sc, hdc in next sc, sc in last sc. Rotate piece, working in unworked lps, 2 sc in first sc, hdc in next sc, dc in last sc, working in opposite side of foundation ch, tr in first 3 chs, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, 2 sc in last ch, join in beg sc. Fasten off.
FINISHING Edging
Rnd 1: With RS facing, join (see Pattern Notes) light olive in ch-5 sp at lower right corner, [sc, ch 1] twice in same sp. Working in sps in ends of rows and in ch-1 sps across top and bottom edges, (sc, ch 1) in each sp around, working [sc, ch 1] twice in each corner. Join in beg sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next ch-1 sp, [ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp] around, working [sc, ch 1] twice in corner ch-1 sps. Join in beg sc. Fasten off.
