ASSEMBLY

Joining is best accomplished by attaching vertical rows of motifs, working from top to bottom.

The top half motifs and bottom half motifs should be added to the vertical strips as joining progresses, but the half side motifs are best added once full motifs have been joined.

Use assembly diagram as a guide.

To make first vertical row, with 1 bottom half motif, 15 full motifs, and top half motif.

Motifs are all joined with WS tog, place a bottom half motif diagonal edge next to a full motif edge. Work sc through both thicknesses along diagonal edges, 1 sc per row (13 sc per

half motif). Place next full motif diagonal oats edge alongside gingham/butternut diagonal edge of the first full motif. Continue adding motifs in this way until 15 full motifs are joined and end by joining top half motif.

CONSECUTIVE ROWS

Place 8 full motifs along vertical edge of first joined row and join starting at the top and finishing at the bottom. No half motifs are used in this row.

Next, you’ll be joining a half motif at the top, 7 full motifs down the length of strip, and a half motif at the bottom. Continue working these last two steps until all motifs have been joined.

At this point, you should have a blanket with a straight edge on the top and bottom of the blanket. Now, place and join the side half motifs, along with oats and gingham/butternut quarter motifs, along the vertical outside edges of blanket.

BORDER

Rnd 1: Join oats with sl st in any corner of blanket, ch 1, [sc in each st or row along edges of motifs and 1 sc in each motif joining] around outer edge, join

(see Pattern Notes) in first sc. Rnd 2: Ch 1, *working in back

lps only (see Stitch Guide), sc through back lp of each sc across straight edge to corner sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner sc, rep from * around, join in beg sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, *sc in each sc to corner ch-1 sp, (sc, ch 1, sc) in ch-1 sp, rep from * around, join in beg sc, fasten off.

FINISHING

At the back of the blanket, knot the yarn ends that appear at the joining points of motifs, and weave in all ends. Block to finish if desired.
