Crocheted Ball Bead

Rnds 1–3: With pink [mint green], work same as rnds 1–3 of Head.

Rnds 4–6: Sc in each st around. Insert 16mm wood bead.

Rnd 7: [Sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in next st] 6 times. (12 sc)

Rnd 8: [Sc dec in next 2 sts] 6 times. Fasten off. (6 sc)

ASSEMBLY & FINISHING

Refer to photo for placement of pieces and facial features and length of cord.

Face

Sew Muzzle to Head, stuffing lightly as sewing progresses. Sew Ears to top of Head.

With black sewing thread and straight stitches (see illustrati­on), embroider eyes and nose.

CORD

With ring on nylon cord, feed doubled length through opening at top of Head. Pull ring out of Cover so keys are accessible and tie knot above Head. String wood bead, crocheted bead ball, and wood bead on cord, knot above last bead and trim ends.

DECORATION­S Flowers for Female Alpaca Make 1 each coral, hot pink and fuchsia.

With size 6 steel hook, ch 16, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, [3 dc in next st, sl st in next st] 7 times. Leaving an 8-inch tail, fasten off. Roll strip in a spiral. With end tail, secure bottom edges and sew Flower to top of Head.

Fringe for Male Alpaca

With size B hook and black, and leaving long beg and end tails for sewing, work chs until piece measures 1/2 inch longer than flat width of Head. Fasten off.

For each tassel, cut 6–8 4-inch strands of turquoise, teal and brown. Fold hank of strands in half. Working around black chs, pull ends through fold with hook, pull ends gently to tighten knot.

With beg and end tails, sew Fringe to Head, allowing piece to curve like a necklace. Trim ends of tassels evenly.
