Eligible households can receive up to $3,000 in grant funds on a first-come, first-served basis while funds are available. For information, referrals and services, email recert@wvcommunityservices.org or call 408-366-6092.
Cupertino also awarded a $6,000 community funding grant to the Chinese American Coalition for Compassionate Care to support its “Starting the Conversation” initiative, intended to inform the Chinese American community about the importance of advance healthcare planning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
City nabs park property
The City of Cupertino on Sept. 25 completed the purchase of 7.8 acres on the east side of town that stand to be developed as a neighborhood park.
The Lawrence-mitty property is located between Lawrence Expressway, Interstate
280 and Bollinger
Road, with the Saratoga Creek Channel running through the site along the western side.
“This is the culmination of over a decade of efforts from people in and around Cupertino to deliver meaningful park space to our east side,” Vice Mayor Darcy Paul said in a statement.
Cupertino is purchasing the property from Santa Clara County for $2.69 million. The county has owned the Lawrence-mitty property since 1972 and historically has used the site as a construction staging area. In 2007, the City of Cupertino, in anticipation of one day purchasing the land for a park area, pre-zoned the property as parks and open space.
