Rotary honors vets

At a virtual Veterans Day meeting, the Rotary Club of Cupertino was intending to pay tribute to one of its own: Tom Dyer, who passed away in February.

Dyer has served as a Marine and was an F8U pilot during the Vietnam War. A member of the Cupertino Rotary Club since 2006, he was also a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. Among his projects, he helped juniors at Monta Vista High School with the club’s veterans history program.

A photo of Dyer’s wife Joan pinning on his Marine stripes was set hang in the high school’s entry case.

Library lobby open

Lobby services are available at all seven branches of the Santa Clara County Library District, including the Cupertino Library. Patrons can enter the lobby to pick up holds, and to browse bestseller and new collections, including movies and children’s books, that are available for checkout via self-service machines. Patrons will need to have their library card with them, or know their library card number to use the selfcheck machines.

No appointment is needed to use lobby service, and patrons are asked to keep their visit to about 10 minutes. Patrons can still arrange contactless curbside service, where a staff member will bring items out to their vehicle. Appointments can be made online or by phone.
