Distinguished Author Series
The Santa Clara County Library District is hosting a four-part, virtual author series beginning in April. The Distinguished Author Series will feature Dr. Robert Sapolsky, Jaron Lanier, Joyce Carol Oates and Jhumpa Lahiri discussing everything from stress to technology to immigration.
Sapolsky will kick off the series on Wednesday, April 14, at 7 p.m. The Stanford professor lectures on diverse topics such as stress and related diseases, living among baboons and the biology of individuality. His books include “Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers” (1994) and the bestseller “Behave: The Biology of Humans at Our Best and Worst” (2017).
Each event will feature a moderator to facilitate conversation with the author. There will also be time for participant questions at the end of the discussion. Register at sccld. org/authorseries to receive a Zoom link to events in the series.
Rebuilding Days set
Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley is taking volunteer sign-ups for its Spring Rebuilding Days, set for April 17 and 24. Volunteers at these events help Santa Clara County nonprofits and homeowners in need make repairs and maintain their property.
In keeping with COVID-19 restrictions, Spring Rebuilding Day projects will focus only on the outside of the home and limit the number of volunteers per project site to no more than 15, and masks and social distancing are mandatory. A dedicated COVID Captain at each project site will help volunteers adhere to safety protocols.
