Shredding, recycling event set for Jan. 22

Cupertino residents can bring their electronic­s, documents and gently used items to Cupertino’s Environmen­tal Recycling event on Saturday, Jan. 22, 8 a.m.-noon, in parking lot A at De Anza College. Book discussion is ‘Enough About Me’

As part of Silicon Valley Reads 2022, which kicks off Jan. 27, the Cupertino Library is hosting an in-person discussion of “Enough About Me” by Richard Lui.

The memoir, which chronicles Lui’s decision to set aside his career as a news anchor to care for his father, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, is a Silicon Valley Reads selection on the theme of “The Power of Kindness, Resilience & Hope.”

Mature workers webinar is Jan. 27

Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian is hosting a Jan. 27 webinar for individual­s age 50 and up who are looking to shift careers or re-enter the workforce. Panelists will discuss how to overcome potential age stereotype­s, upgrade skill sets and build confidence to thrive within the workforce.

The panel of Silicon Valley labor market specialist­s includes Brenda Brown, director of the Second Careers Employment Program at Peninsula Family Service; Anne van Tonningen, a career adviser for Peninsula Family Service; Jen Cheyer, program manager at Novaworks; and a Mature Worker Job Coaching Program participan­t.
