Custer County Chief receives NPA awards
BROKEN BOW - Like many events, the annual Nebraska Press Association (NPA) convention was postponed due to health concerns over the coronavirus. Rather than meeting in person in April, newspaper staffs across the state were able to view an online video June 25 announcing the winners of the NPA contests. The Custer County Chief is proud to announce receving recognition for the following:
First Place - Headline Writing. The prize-winning headline, “Boy, are my feet wet!” was written by General Manager Donnis Hueftle-Bullock and accompanied a photo by Tim Conover of a young corn plant surrounded by water. The headline and photo printed June 6, 2019 and is shown at right.
Second Place - Special Single Section. The Chief’s Oct. XX, 2019 special section of “Salute to Ag Producers” garnered this honor. The entire staff at the Custer County Chief contributed to this publication.
Third Place - Front Page. A collection of Memorial Day photos taken by Managing Editor Mona Weatherly and General Manager Donnis Hueftle-Bullock made up the page that won third place in this category. The page, which was published may 30, 2019, is shown at left.
Third Place - Special Section (Multiple Publication Days). “Getting Ready for County Fair 2019” was published over three weeks and won recognition for the Chief staff.
Third Place - Youth Coverage: This award was for the multi-week coverage of local FFA Chapters in 2019 and was the work of the entire Chief staff.
