BURWELL - Mick Puckett of Ord is the winner of the American Legion Clifford Clark Post No. 298 raffle for a Ruger American 22 Magnum WMRF Bolt-Action Rifle, according to post Commander, Donald Christen.

“The recent raffle for American Legion Clifford Clark Post No. 298 was a fundraiser for the new Post home building at the same location that was home to the Burwell Legion Club for many years,” Christen said.

Puckett honored the memory of his grandfather, Joseph Polan, a veteran of World War 1, with a donation to American Legion Post 298. Joseph Polan lived in Burwell in the 1930s and was born and lived in the Northwest corner of Valley County. During World War 1, he served with “A” Company, the 28th Infantry, the 32nd Division and he was awarded the Croix de Guerre, which is the highest French military decoration.

Commander Christen and Director, William R Weber presented the rifle to Puckett June 17 on location of the future Post home of American Legion Post 298. American Legion Post No. 298 is working toward building a new Post Home in 2020.
