Sharks overpower Spirit Blue

Broken Bow- In a game that nearly wasn’t as lopsided as the scored show, Spirit Blue Softball fell to the Sandhills Sharks 9-1 on June 23 in Broken Bow.

“We had strong pitching, there was one inning where we had a three up and three down,” Coach Tom Griffith said.

Throughout the first three innings of play Spirit Blue did a good job keeping with the Sharks, only trailing by a score of 1-0. That one run came in the top of the first when a single to right field scored a runner for Sandhills from second.

Spirit Blue was led on the mound by a savvy senior and veteran of the team Victoria Coleman. She had three strikeouts during the game.

The wheels started coming off for the Blue in the fourth when a walk started the inning. The next batter doubled scoring a run and a wild throw moved a Shark baserunner up to third.

An error in the infield and a double moved Sandhills in front 4-0 heading to the bottom half of the inning.

The Sharks extended their lead with two more runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth inning. A big part of them jumping out to a big lead was due to three singles that resulted in four runs.

The Blues finally got on the board in their last at-bat in the sixth.

The first batter of the inning Karina Kitt was hit by a pitch. She was able to steal second base and came home to score on a single to right field with two outs by Venessa Coleman.

“Were not seeing the things we need to,” Griffith said. “We had too many strikeouts looking. These are a tough group of girls. Their fun to watch when their on and they will get on, it’s just a matter of time.
