Broken Bow - The Broken Bow Junior and Senior Legion baseball teams had a busy schedule this past week. It almost seemed like a MLB schedule.

It started Thursday evening at Paul Brown Field against Overton. In the Junior’s game Broken Bow had 7 runners cross home plate in the top of the first inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead. There were 18 more runs scored in the game between the two teams. Overton tried to work their way back into it but the deficit was too great, as Broken Bow defeated Overton 15-10. Nicholas Shada took the win on the mound for Bow, pitching 5 innings allowing 4 hits and 8 runs.

The Broken Bow Seniors followed suit by swinging their bats and putting runners across home plate. Bow scored 9 runs in the bottom of the first inning and added 12 more in the bottom of the third for a 21-1 win in 5 innings. Coy Johnson lead the way by driving in 6 runs on 3 hits.

The evening did not go as well for the Broken Bow Seniors. Both teams had their bats swinging with Broken Bow getting 10 hits and Holdrege 12 hits. when the smoke cleared Holdrege had twice as many runners cross home plate as they defeated Broken Bow 16-8. Broken Bow found themselves down 9-2 going into the 6th inning. They tried to make a late comeback by scoring 3 runs in the 6th and another 3 in the seventh but the damage was already done.

Broken Bow ended their week Saturday afternoon as they hosted Chase County. In the Junior’s game, the two teams went scoreless in the first two innings. In the third Max Denson started off by getting a single on a ground ball to the short stop. Coy Johnson singled on a line drive to right field advancing Denson to second. Caden Holmes then sacrificed advancing the runners to third and second. Sawyer Bumgarner came to the plate and sacrificed to left field allowing Denson to cross home plate, giving Broken Bow a 1-0 lead. Bow tried to hold on to the lead but in the 5th inning Chase County scored 2 runs to go up 2-1. Broken Bow answered in the bottom of the 6th with a run by Austin Harvey to tie it up 2-2. The game went into extra innings. Chase County scored in the top of the 10th inning on an error, handing the Juniors their first loss of the season, as Bow was unable to answer in the bottom of the 10th.

In the Senior’s game Chase County struck first with 1 run in the top of the first inning. Broken Bow answered with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st to take a 4-1 lead.
