Six games in three days for Broken Bow Legion

Broken Bow - The Broken Bow Legion Baseball teams had a busy schedule this past weekend, especially the Juniors. The Juniors and Seniors traveled to Gothenburg Friday night, then traveled to Imperial Saturday evening to play Chase County before the Juniors finished up at home on Sunday afternoon with a doublehead­er against Sutton. Some of the players that play on both the Juniors and the Seniors played six games in three days.

In the Juniors game at Gothenburg Friday Broken Bow took an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning. They added another two runs in the top of the second. Gothenburg answered in the bottom of the third inning with five runs of their own to go up 5-3. In the top of the fourth Broken Bow was able to tie it up 5-5. Gothenburg was able to get one runner across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning to go up 6-5 and was able to hold on to that lead for the win as Broken Bow was unable to answer.

Caden Holm started on the mound for Bow. He went two innings allowing no hits or runs while striking out two. Nicholas Shada took the loss allowing four hits and six runs over three innings.

Max Denson, Austin Harvey, Kaden McKeen, Carter Johnson and Caden Holm all had one hit on the night to lead Bow.

Unfortunat­ely the Senior game followed suit for Broken Bow. Both teams did all their scoring in the first three innings with the score tied 7-7 until Gothenburg squeezed one more run across the plate in the bottom of the fifth to go up 8-7. Broken Bow was unable to answer.

Both teams had eight hits on the night. Max Denson led Broken Bow going three for four at the plate.

Denson started the game for Bow. He went three innings allowing five hits and seven runs. Coy Johnson took the loss. He went three innings allowing one run on three hits.

Saturday evening Broken Bow traveled to Imperial to play Chase County.

In the Juniors game the two teams went scoreless until the bottom of the third when Chase County scored a run. Broken Bow answered in the top of the fourth with a run of their own. Broken Bow then added another three runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead. However, Chase County answered in the bottom of the sixth with four runs to tie the game 5-5. Broken Bow fought back in the top of the seventh and scored two runs as they took back the lead 7-5. Chase County was unable to answer as Broken Bow held on to the win.

Caden Holm started on the mound for Bow. He went five and a third innings, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out four. Austin Harvey surrendere­d zero runs on two hits over one and twothirds innings.

Brody Ridder and Sawyer Bumgarner led Broken Bow in batting. They each had three hits on the night.

in the Seniors game Broken Bow found themselves down 4-0 at the end of the fourth inning. Broken Bow was able to score one run in the seventh but could not make up for the damage already done as they lost to Chase County 4-1.

Blake Denson started on the mound for Broken Bow. He allowed five hits on four runs while striking out four.

Keifer Anderson and Clay Brandon each had two hits on the night to lead Bow.

Sunday afternoon the Juniors hosted Sutton in a doublehead­er. The first game was to begin at noon but was delayed until 1 p.m. due to rain and lightning.

In the first game Broken Bow took an early lead over Sutton. that is all they would need as they ended up defeating Sutton 3-1. Neither team scored after the third inning.

Austin Harvey started on the mound for Bow. He went five innings allowing one run on six hits while striking out seven.

Max Denson had two hits in three at bats to lead Bow.

The second game was a different story. Broken Bow found themselves down 6-1 after the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth Sutton made a statement that a come back would not be in order for Bow as they scored seven runs, winning 13-2.

The Broken Bow Juniors are 10-5 on the season while the Seniors are 7-8.

The stage is now set for the Mid-Nebraska League Juniors Tournament.
