Sink your teeth into the Custer County Fair

Food vendors bring plenty of food options to fair

BROKEN BOW- When you think of fair time in Nebraska, you think of food. That sentiment holds true for the Custer County Fair that runs through July 30.

Even though the fair will undoubtedl­y be different this year, there will still be plenty of food places to choose from and eat at during the event.

These vendors include TLC Catering of Burwell, The Secret Garden out of Merna, Tropical Sno of Broken Bow, Smoken Hot out of Sargent, Papa Tom’s from Fullerton, River City Carnival out of Saint Paul, and Pizza Hut of Broken Bow.

TLC Catering will have a lot of classic sandwiches, as well as some special sandwiches that they are known for. One of these sandwiches is the Rancher Sandwich which consists of slow-roasted beef with bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes.

They will also have a Burwell local favorite the Sorting Alley. It includes beef, a fried egg, and a jalapeno cream cheese spread.

Besides these two sandwiches, they will also have Pack’s Shack where they will serve nachos and super nachos, slushy’s, a vast variety of fried foods, tater tots, $1 pops and $2 ice creams and lemonades. Breakfast will be served some morning’s which will include pancakes, sausage, and breakfast sandwiches.

The Secret Garden will be one of a few different options if you’re in the mood for a specialty drink. They will have smoothies, lattes, frappes, pita melts, and slushies.

The combinatio­ns for their drinks are endless. They have 15 smoothy flavors that range from Belgium Chocolate to Blueberry Banana. If you are lactose intolerant they have three smoothy flavors with no dairy.

tropical sno which you may have seen around town by Grocery Kart or at the Farmers Market will also be there with their Hawaiian shaved ice treats and limeades.

They have a menu list of 23 different items, which includes Bahama Mama (Banana, Strawberry, Coconut) all the way down to Wedding Cake (Vanilla, Coconut, and Vanilla Cream). Besides their menu options, you have the build your own refreshing drink chose of up to three flavors.

Smoken Hot will be bringing a taste of BBQ. They will be serving Smoked prime rib, brisket, and pulled pork sandwiches during the fair.

To go along with this, they will also have brisket and pulled pork nachos, pork ribs, and loaded potatoes. With your meal, you can also add a soda, water, or lemonade.

Sticking to BBQ, Papa Tom’s will be one of the vendors this year. They have a big menu consisting of smoke brisket, bourbon honey pulled pork, smoked brats, 100% beef hot dogs, baby back ribs, cowboy beans, and coleslaw.

Specialty Sandwiches include the Carolina Jack which is honey bourbon pulled pork, and coleslaw, the Husker Sandwich consisting of brisket and coleslaw, a BBQ Sundae which is pork, beans, and brisket, a Sloppy Cheese

Dog that has a beef hot dog, brisket, and cheese, a Cow Dog which is a beef hot dog, brisket, and cheese, and Corn Bread Fries made of cornbread,

beans, honey, and brisket.

They will also have a separate stand where you can make yourself a slushy or ice cream cone and will be serving breakfast consisting of breakfast sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, and breakfast burritos.

In an interview with Papa Tom’s he prides himself on having something different that you can’t find everday.

Even though there will be no rides this year, River City Carnival will still be bringing food trucks to the fair. They will have funnel cakes, corn dogs, fried ores, curly fries, cotton candy, sloppy joes, nachos, and lemonade.

Start making your list now of which vendors you look to hit up at the fair. There should be a good variety with lots of tasty options.
