Devotion: Rejoice and be glad!

- BY KATHY SALTS, PMA Our Saviour Lutheran Church ELCA

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

This is most certainly true. Each and every day is a time to begin anew.

It is the same with each new season. Each in its own way offers a new perspective.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-6: For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: at time to be born, a time to die; a time to plant, a time to harvest; a time to kill, a time to heal; a time to tear down, a time to build; a time to weep, and time to laugh; a time to mourn, a time to dance; a time to throw away, a time to gather; a time to embrace, a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, a time to lose; a time to keep, a time to throw away; a time to tear and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, a time to speak; a time to love, a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.

I love the season of fall. The leaves are changing colors, the fall flowers are blooming and people are decorating with pumpkins, scarecrows and bales of straw. The air has a different feel to it and we can shut off our air conditioners. We can see God everywhere if we are truly looking.

Even when things seem to be dark and threatening, when tensions are running high and fear is running rampant, we still have reason to remember, “This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.” He has promised to be with us “even to the end of the age.”

I pray you will take time to give thanks and praise to our Lord for all his many blessings and to enjoy the changing of the seasons.
