HASTINGS - The Broken Bow volleyball team continues to surge at the right time, as the C1 No.8 Indians won the Gibbon Triangular Sept. 24 and the Adams Central Invite Sept. 26.

On Thursday, the team started off with a 2-0 win over Centura. They beat the Centurians 25-18 in the first set and 25-19 in set two.

Leading the way for Broken Bow was Kya Scott with 12 kills and Kali Staples with four. Cami Schweitzer had 18 digs in the match and Staples had 15.

The team faced off with Gibbon in match two. The Indians were too much to handle for the Buffaloes who had no answer for their relentless attack. In the end, Broken Bow won 25-9 and 25-7.

At the Adams Central tournament, the Indian’s solid play carried over from two nights prior. They beat Boone Central-Newman Grove 25-22 and 25-14.

Their toughest match of the weekend came against a good Adam Central team.

In set one, they were able to secure a 25-21 victory over the Patriots.

Things did not start off well for the Indians in the second set, as they fell behind 19-11 midway through the game. Broken Bow did not get rattled and kept chipping away at the deficit, eventually coming all the way back to win the set 26-24 and the match 2-0.

Schall and Kya Scott each had eight kills to lead the Indians and Kailyn Scott added 10 digs.

In the championship, the Indians played C2 No.9 Superior.

The Wildcats put up a fight in the first set, losing 25-21, but Broken Bow overpowered them in the second as they picked up a 25-17 set win and 2-0 match win.

Schall was a force at the net picking up two blocks and Callie White had one. Defensively, Kya Scott had seven digs and Staples had six.

“The girls were very determined all day and knew what they wanted to accomplish,” Head coach Skylar Morris said. “These girls have fought back multiple times and have kept their composure, and limited their mistakes.”

During the week, there were also two school records broken by the Kya and Kailyn Scott. On Thursday, Kailyn Scott broke the school record for assist in a career with 1,621 assists. Then on Saturday, Kya Scott broke the school record for career points with 501. Kirsten Staab was the previous assist record holder and Layna Garey for points.

“It is always exciting to see a record get broke, Morris said. “That is why we have records, for them to get broke.”

The Indians travel to Ravenna this week, to take part in the Ravenna Triangular against the Bluejays and Holdrege on Oct. 1.
