HOLDREGE - The Broken Bow girls golf team added not one, but two first-place trophies to the 2020 count at the Holdrege Invite Sept.24 and the Cozad Invite Sept.28. The Indians shot a 361 as a team at Holdrege and a 381 to win in Cozad.

At Holdrege, the team was led by freshman Camryn Johnson who shot an 85 to finish second. She was one stroke off the champion Kendall Colby of Minden.

Custer County Chief All-Area team member Madison Jackson was third with an 88, followed by Emery Custer in fourth with a 90. Finish just outside the top fifteen was Graycee Oeltjen in 16th with a 98, followed by Avery Campbell in 18th with a 99.

The JV team’s Joscelyn Coleman was 19th, shooting a 101 overall.

“It was another great day for our program,” Head coach Kelly Cooksley said.” “We had 6 girls in the top 19 and 3 of the top 4 golfers, it doesn’t get much better than that. I just loved how are kids compete at the meet and within our own team to make each other better. Coming into the day I wanted to see how much we improved as a program from a year ago at this same meet and point.

We shot 398 last year in the same conditions as it was yesterday compared to a 361 this year.”

The team used this course and meet as a test to see where they might be heading into districts next week. Overall, they did a very good job.

“This meet is always a great measuring stick to see where we are at heading into the postseason,” Cooksley said. “The back is long and open and the front is narrow and a lot of trees so it really challenges you mentally and your game gets put to the test. I thought our kids passed with flying colors. I think we are playing our best golf at the right time and I look forward to carrying this into conference and districts.”

At Cozad on Monday, Johnson and Custer both shot a 92 in windy conditions to finish third and fourth. Oeltjen was seventh shooting a 96 and Campbell was tenth with a 101.

Finishing with the second-best score on the day, was the Broken Bow JV with a 420. They were led by Taylor Schaaf who shot a 97, Lainey Palmer with a 102, Coleman with a 109, Kennedy Garcia at 112, and Sophie Aden who shot a 121.

The Indians will be competing at 10:am. on Oct.1 at the Southwest Conference meet at the Cozad Country Club.
