Broken Bow XC battles through stiff competitio­n

OGALLALA - Broken Bow Cross Country has been busy over the past four days, competing in the Ogalalla invite on Sept. 24 and the UNK High School Invite on Sept.28.

The boys finished third with 58 points and the girls were ninth with 149 at the Ogallala Invite. According to coach Jason Daffer, he didn’t feel it was his team’s best meet of the year.

“We didn’t run as well as we are capable of on Thursday on both the boy’s and girl’s side,” Daffer said. “We were able to place one girl and two boys in the top 15.”

Leading the boys, was Daine Wardyn with a time of 17:55.5. Good enough to earn fifth place overall.

In 11th it was Noah Osmond with a time of 18:13.5, followed by Trey Hurlburt in 24th with an 18:55, Casey Faulkenber­ry in 25th with an 18:56.2, Brock Oeltjen finishing 36th in a time of 19:38.9, and Ethan Wenquist was 42nd in a time of 19:50.9.

Freshman Makinley Tobey was the lead runner for the girls, finishing in 14th place with a time of 22:01.2.

The Indian’s second runner was Isela Tecero who was 48th overall in a time of 25:54.5, followed directly by Anna Lindstrom with a 25:54.5 in 49th. Next was Chelsea Royle in 56th with a 26:57.1, Savanah Peterson in 62nd with a 27:42.5, and Ryen Haines in 69th crossing the line in a time of 29:51.3.

At the UNK Invite, the Broken Bows finished just outside the top five in seventh with 164 points and the girls were 19th with 294 points altogether.

The best finish on the day went to Wardyn who finished 11th out of 307 runners on the boy’s side. He ended up running a 17:36.7.

Osmond was 21st in a time of 17:54.6, Hurlburt was 53rd in a time of 18:48.6, Oeltjen was 81st in a time of 19:09.5, Faulkenber­ry was 86th finishing in a time of 19:18.1, and Wenquist clocked a 19:56.6.

Tobey finished 19th overall in the girl’s race out of 206 runners. She was three-tenths of a second behind Annie Huesser of Lincoln Christian in a time of 21:14.8.

Following her it was Lindstrom in 78th with a time of 23:42, Tercero with a 25:13.9, Royle with a 25:24.8, Peterson in a time of 26:15.7, and Palmer finishing in a time of 26:38.4.

The Indians are at the Gothenburg Invite on Oct.1.
