Arcadia-Loup City Football Injuries derail Rebels goals
The 2020 season was a hard season in particular for Arcadia-Loup City head coach Mike Scott. The Rebels were expecting big things from this year’s group with lots of starting experience back, but ultimately injuries became too much to overcome for the group.
“It was a tough season to coach,” Mike Scott said. “The first being that Jadeyn was out six weeks for us. He was a vital part of our offense and it compounded it a little bit, due to the fact he is my son.”
In the first two games of the year, the Rebels were missing both Jadeyn Scott and Tyron Calleroz who were out with injuries. A-LC was able to rally and be competitive with them out vs Elm Creek and Nebraska Christian, but in the end, they dropped two games by six total points.
Mike Scott stated that he believed those injuries and those two close losses to start the year were the main reason the team slid as far as they did in the power points and why they ended up where they did in the D1 playoffs. He et a team like Stanton later in the playoffs and would have a better shot if they could have their two seniors in the backfield play the whole season.
“We prepared so much in the offseason for the combination of Jadeyn and Tyron,” Scott said. “We finally were able to get them going in the read game and it was yanked out from underneath us.”
Those injuries gave the opportunity for different underclassmen to make a difference on the field. Looking ahead to next season, that is definitely a positive for the Rebels.
A-LC also put up one of the best fights on the season vs Burwell. The Longhorns who made the D1 state title game needed a late touchdown to beat the Rebels.
This year’s A-LC squad had 11 seniors. They included Calleroz, Drew Lewandowski, Luke Krolikowski, Logan Gregory, Jadeyn Scott, Gavin Sell, Clayton Dethlefs, Liam Heil, Trey Vogler, Nathan Fowler and Ethan Krzycki.
