Broken Bow Volleyball Winning a habit!
Heading into the 2020 season, doubts and uncertainty were what the Broken Bow Volleyball team kept hearing from the outside voices. It had nothing to do with the situation surrounding COVID-19 but had everything to do with the fact that the Indians had a very inexperienced team coming into this season, after graduating a good portion of the starters off of last year’s fourth-place state team.
The girls did not let the
outside voices affect them and ultimately used it as fuel to prove people wrong. Prove people wrong did they ever, as the team finished with nearly thirty wins and made a second straight appearance at the state tournament in Lincoln.
Head Coach Skylar Morris stated that this is some of the hardest working group of girls that she has ever been around. This year’s seniors made the most out of their one year as
starters.
It did not all start out good though, as the team got off to a rocky start at 2-3. After getting all healthy from early-season illnesses the team was able to rattle off 22 wins in a row, one of which was against Kearney Catholic on the road in an instant classic five-set match.
After the rough start, Morris stated that she did not expect this team to be able to turn their season around the way
they did. She credited the drastic turnaround to their hardworking mentality that this group of seniors has had since their freshman year.
She also said that this group continued to show tons of growth and remained very coachable. This season required them to make lots of changes throughout, but they were all for the better as the team was able to reach their goals.
The Indians had five differ
ent players selected the Southwest All-Conference Team. They were juniors Kailyn and Kya Scott who were selected as first-team members, seniors Emma Schall and Kali Staples who were second-team members, and senior Cami Schweitzer who was honorable mention.
The 2020 Broken Bow volleyball team was a true testament to how far hard work and dedication can take you.
