Mullen Football Broncos end up in playoffs once again

-

In 2020 Mullen was able to push their streak of state football playoff appearances up to 19 years in a row behind a very young squad.

Despite having a tough schedule to start the season, the Broncos continued to develop and improve. That continued desire to get better led them to a 6-2 finish in the regular season.

“We knew going in the first half of our schedule was probably a little stronger than the back half,” head coach Wade Marsh said. “We also started the year banged up. We were playing a lot of guys who were getting their first taste of varsity experience.”

The upperclassman with playing experience for Mullen did a good job

of filling in these younger players on what was expected of them as starters. It allowed them to be successful and win the games they were expected to despite injuries.

“Our returning starters did a good job of bringing those guys along,” Marsh said. “We actually never had a full game with our complete lineup all year. One good thing about that is we were able to build depth and get some younger guys in the game. We did a good job of taking care of business in the games we felt we had a good chance to win.”

In 2020 Marsh relished the opportunity to see his players grow and become more explosive as a team. He is excited to see where that leads them in 2020.

“Some of the most memorable parts of this year was seeing how much the guys improved throughout the year,” Marsh said. “We had some games where we were pretty explosive on offense and played some good team defense. I am hopeful that carrys into next season and gives these guys something to work for.”

Mullen finished the 2020 year with a record of 6-3 overall. The Broncos had two seniors on the squad in Brendon Walker and Brice McIntosh.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Broncos are hard to beat in the coming years. Lots of great young talent on this squad moving forward next year.
