South Loup Cross Country Landyn Cole becomes Bobcats first state qualifier
The South Loup cross country team continues to build for the future with another positive season in 2020. The Bobcats finished the season as MNAC conference champions on the girl’s side for the second straight year and Landyn Cole became South Loup’s first state qualifier in the sport.
“Overall, I felt that the season for both the boys and girls went very well,” head coach Nicole Recoy said. “I saw a huge improvement from last year to this year. The girl’s team scored well at most of our meets this year. The boys did well and having Logan Recoy do so well as a freshman was huge for us. I am hoping to have a full boys’ team in the future.”
At the D5 district meet the South Loup girls came up one spot away from qualifying for state. They finished fourth with 44 points and Hi-Line who the Bobcats beat for the MNAC was third with 40.
There were some good individual performances from Logan Recoy who finished 18th in the boy’s race and from Halie Recoy who finished 17th in the girl’s race. Cole earned a third-place finish punching her ticket to state.
“Landyn was a great addition to our team this year,” Nicole Recoy said. “She is a tough competitor, and she pushed the team to work harder and was such a positive influence on the team. Her work ethic, besides being a talented runner, is the reason she was able to qualify for state.”
At state, she was 35th in a time of 21:40.1. There were 121 runners who competed in the Class D race.
Despite this only being South Loup’s second year as a program they continue to make improvements on both sides and look to be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come.
