South Loup battles through tough year
Coming into 2020 the South Loup Bobcats knew they were going to have the odds stacked against them with a very young and inexperienced team. This was seen many times throughout the year and ultimately was the downfall in a squad that stumbled to a 0-8 finish on the season.
According to coach
Mat Jageler the not winning on the field did not damper the positivity and attitude of this team. They continued to work hard and were more than happy to get to play every game on their schedule. A luxury that some teams cannot say they got to partake in.
“It was a rough season, but the boys stayed positive and we’re just happy to be playing football this year,” Jageler said. “We felt fortunate to play all eight games, a lot of teams didn’t get to.”
One thing I noticed personally from this year’s group from watching them is that they never gave up. Whether it was against a very talented Sandhills-Thedford team that they only trailed by one possession to at halftime or against Twin Loup where they led the Wolves all the way up until the fourth quarter, they always continued to fight till the very end.
“We had to play a lot of sophomores and freshman this year, and just watching them mature on the field and become better football players was my favorite part,” Jageller said. “I also loved watching the boys fight every game, didn’t matter who we played, they always showed up to battle.”
Even though this season is not what the Bobcat faithful are accustom to, I believe there will be plenty of opportunities for games to be one in the year’s that follow with this group of kids.
