Wolves focused on improving themselves
The Twin Loup XC team may have been small in numbers in 2020, but the attitude they brought to the sport was anything but small. Despite not having enough kids to have a girls or boys XC team this season, they focused on improving themselves as individuals.
“I was impressed with each one of my runners this season,” Head Coach Hannah Meeks said. “Being a small group this year and not having enough for a full team really allowed my runners to focus on themselves, and their individual goals! I had some rookies that joined the team, who I think learned a lot about the sport and the dedication it takes to be a Cross Country runner.”
The team was led by two seniors in Abi Lewis and Daniel Folkers. Both showed great leadership skills to the two other members of the team; freshman Gracie Conrad and junior Ethan Kipp.
“I also had some runners that returned that improved immensely this year, it is fun as a coach to see their improvement even from past seasons,” Meeks said. “I was overall impressed with this group of runners’ energy and especially the senior leadership we had!” This year’s Wolves squad relished the time they had together. Despite not being able to celebrate team or individual awards for the most part, this year’s group took solace in the fact that they gave their best effort at every meet they competed in.
“Our team had many treasured memories that I will not be forgetting anytime soon, I am just thankful to get to be a part of such awesome communities, and be able to be these kids’ coaches,” Meeks said. “They make everyday fun and interesting, to say the least!”
