Wolves finish at same spot
Heading into this season, Twin Loup’s volleyball team had their sites set high and were looking to claim the ultimate prize of a state championship. The Wolves once again had a spectacular year but came up one game short of their ultimate goal.
Twin Loup was done no favors, being paired up with last year’s D2 Runner-Up Humphrey St. Francis in the District Final. The Wolves fought hard to contain the high flying offense of the Flyers, but in the end, were just a little overpowered.
Despite the loss, the team is very optimistic about next season and head coach Tami Phillipps believes the team is still building for the future.
“All in all, I am proud of how we played against last year’s D2 State Runner-Up team,” Phillips said. “We are still building for the future and it leaves an impact on the returning girls for next year.”
This team had some big highlights which included knocking off Mullen who was a state tournament team and also beating South Loup who made it to a District Final in Class C2. The team was led by a powerful senior trio upfront in Shaylee Oxford, Emma Hart, and Andrea Maldonado.
Shelby Keith was also a senior this year for the Wolves. She came in off the bench and put in some valuable minutes and production in the back row.
“As for my four seniors, they made it to a district final game the last two years. They put a lot of hard work in this season hoping to get a chance to go back. They did their part in a very abnormal volleyball season. We just fell short again. I am very proud of this 2020 Twin
